Anybody else find side quests just plain annoying?
I have to say, I enjoy this game a LOT more just playing through the story. I find the side quests just so laborious on these sprawling, confusing maps that we're SUPPOSED to easily be able to get across.

Like that racing quest with the kid that calls you a noob. First of all, I drove off the edge of a cliff because there was nothing indicating there was a cliff there, and the massive flipping glowing arrow failed to pop up and tell me "TAKE A HARD RIGHT TURN HERE!" Shortly after this, I got completely lost and ended up in a pit of ice water with virtually no way out, and ended up failing the mission that has a timer of 1 minute 30 seconds. Have Australians not heard of roads? Can Elpis not support them? All I see are broken bits of road sticking out of the ground here and there, and there are NO pathways to follow. Does asphalt explode the second it touches this moon's surface or something?

And then there's the just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ annoying voice acting. Maybe it's some kind of latent xenophobia or something, but I find the Australian voices GRATING. Like that girl scout (?) that wants you to put up posters and burn some others. And the child that challenges you to the aforementioned race. And flipping JENNY. I swear if I have to deal with squeaky, heavily-accented voice acting through the whole game eight times to get my characters to level 51 it's going to end in my suicide.

TL;DR, I have a newfound hate-on for Australians and I find the quests too punishing; I resent being called a "newb" by a ten-year-old and being told "Thanks for nothing" by a girl scout because the quests are impossible.

Hated the timed missioms in BL2 so never did them and won't do these either. Plus that stupid mission to get Spring's stories. Left that one behind after falling into the lava 20 times when you have to jump to grab the story hanging from a piece of wreckage. I agree with you about the voice acting and also find the accent hard to listen to and understand. Especially when Spring is babbling away at you when you're in the middle of a fight and can't focus on the subtitles.
Expect flames from our Aussie friends.
If you're playing 1 player, then doing the timed ones are not too bad if you set up cars in good spots to teleport to to save time.
Only side mission I really despise is the early timed one for putting up flyers and burning them. I share your contempt for timed missions. I've played on multiple characters so far and the majority of the missions are fine. The confusing layout of the map can sometimes be frustrating though.

I normally don't ever bother with timed missions. I hope they don't become mandatory for story progress, because I might lose interest if that happens.

There isn't anything too frustrating story-wise.

Only had to do this with Dr. Zed's Arm's Dealing mission (BL2) since it's the only one I fail occasionally without doing that. Havent come across any so far that was as hard as that one in BLP-S.

I didn't mind the timed missions this time around. Maybe I just knew what to do from playing BL2, but I didn't fail any the first time around. I think BL2 has more annoying timed missions, IMO.

The side quests are ok, some are pretty fun. My only issue with them is the amount of backtracking I have to do. In BL2 I could swipe through a lot of quests in one go and plan out how I'll handle the quests to avoid backtracking. But in this game, they kind of force you to backtrack. For instance, some quest-lines require you turn it in to the questgiver, often in another zone. However, he gives you a follow-up quest that takes place in the zone you just left. It's even worse for zones that don't have fast travel stations (and it feels like this game decided it didn't need as many as BL2 did).

After a while, the backtracking feels intentional; like this is meant to pad the game out a bit more to make up for not being as big as BL2 was.

I agree with the backtracking and lack of fast travel. Wouldn't be so bad if the areas were easy to drive through but it's rarely the case. Lots of confusing pathing and lava to accidentally fall in. I think they wanted to encourage exploration a bit, but it does feel jarring compared to bl2.
Yeah, the side missions are pretty awful. I absolutely loathed that first race mission with the kid, since I had the same problem of falling off the cliff because I was dumb enough to follow the road markers and the dumb arrow never appeared. Not only are the quest descriptions badly written, but the waypoint markers on the maps are awful, as you never know what the hell you're supposed to do next most of the times. I can't tell you how many minutes I've wasted running around the map in the vacinity of the map marker only to figure it out many, many minutes later that I was supposed to press a this tiny, TINY button to open a door or search behind something to find a switch.

Another annoying mission was that stupid "To Arms!" quest, where you have to journey to the middle of nowhere and fight a gang of scavs just all in order to donate some weapons to some communist guys. Well, I loaded up all my un-used guns, filled up my inventory with greens and unused blues, then went to find the drop-off point. Lo and behold, after driving to the mailbox and fighting off all those scavs, I activate the mailbox and found that I couldn't deposit ANY of the weapons I brought. At first I thought it was a bug, but searching online I was told that you can only deposit WHITE weapons. Thanks, 2K Australia. I could have used that information FORTY MINUTES AGO.

Also, I didn't mind the Australian accents. I find them sexy. :3
It's my biggest complaint with the game. The first place I thought quests were actually clustered together in a pleasing manner was the Hyperion Hub of Heroism. The whole game should have been designed more like that. For Borderlands 3 I really hope they have quest rewards without backtracking for turn ins. Many other games have already gone that way. If I collect the 3 macguffins or kill the big boss I just want to hear a humurous radio message that conveys the conclusion and have the loot magically appear/digistruct in my bag.
Only thing id say is that they throw them at you too many at a time and at wierd parts in the story. Here I am about to go *insert awesome spoilerific moment here* and then some jack ass wants me to go on a fetch quest? SORRY BRO IM SAVING THE MOON RIGHT NOW, bit busy to go grab ur voice recordings!
They just feel a bit more immersion breaking than in BL2 and I feel more should be placed along the quest lines so you can do them during the middle of your mission, like the ninja turtles spoof in BL2, just an offshoot of the middle of your mission, or if you please come back to it, much better flow.
