That would be silly if it were melee, then you wouldn't be able to melee in mid-air!

(And getting a mid-air melee kill with Krieg was one of the few times I truely felt like I was playing as a badass in BL2)

This is a function of the Oz unit. When you get your Oz unit it describes how to do it. Incidentally, you can double jump to get higher butt slams.

Yes when you get the oz unit you can press C standard key binding.
