Pressure Plates in Outlands Canyon

Does anyone know what they do? I think it triggers some sort of in game clock countdown but I'm not sure what it means. It could be nothing but I was thinking it was attached to some sort of challenge.

There's an electric fence with red lights above it. Slam on a plate, a light turns green, slam on all quick enough and the fence deactivates. That simple.
