Pre-Sequel always crashes after killing the final boss

Immediately after killing the final boss, the game freezes and gives a message then goes directly to the title screen. I can't read the message because it only shows it for half a second before going to the title screen. This is infuriating and it looks like the developer has known about this problem since 2015.

I had no problems like this at any point in the game. I verified the integrity of files, and my video card drivers are up to date - I'm playing on a modern gaming PC with good specs. The game runs buttery smooth at 120 FPS most of the time. I've seen a lot of bad troubleshooting advice on this forum, so I'm hoping that someone who actually experienced this problem has found a working solution.
