Soldier/command character for the pre-sequel?
Doesnt matter if i play borderlands, skyrim, fallout, mass effect...my primary character is a soldier focused on mid range fighting with long and short range capability.

I found Rolands sabre turret to be op was ridicously easy to finish borderlands, Axton's sabre turret is both worse and better but still rather op.

Which character in the pre-sequel would be most suited for me?

Bonus question, is there any character in bl1/bl2 that could fit my playstyle besides roland and axton?
Regards

I dislike Soldier/Commando class in series (bc of turret).
BL1: Siren was my fave class, followed by Hunter.
BL2: Assassin and Mechromancer.
TPS: Gladiator and Lawbringer.
- Claptrap is funny, but too random; Jack is too OP; I quit playing Wilhelm at end of TVHM (bored); Aurelia isn't bad, but an entire skill tree is co-op centric (I'm LV55 atm).

BL1: Mordecai did pretty well with revolvers, repeaters, and snipers. Snipers for long range, revolvers for close range, repeaters (or SMGs, or assault rifles) for mid-range headshots. It still relied on crits, though.

BL2: Maya, the Siren, might be what you want. She's good with elemental weapons, and people typically use pistols, SMGs, snipers with her. She can either remove one large enemy from battle, or pull everyone into a cluster so you can unload grenades or rocket launchers at the crowd.

TPS: Honestly, there's several characters you might like. They're all pretty good.

- Wilhelm is the most obvious choice. His two drones fly around, rather than a turret glued to the ground. Wolf flies around and attacks enemies, and Saint heals you and your allies. Wilhelm gets his stats buffed when they're active, and can get bonuses for when they're recalled or destroyed. Wilhelm is a run-and-gunner, so rapid fire weapons like shotguns or assault rifles work well.

- Nisha is a bit of a glass cannon. Her Law & Order skill tree lets her get more heals the more into battle she goes. Her special move locks onto enemies and improves accuracy and fire rate, so most weapons will still hit the enemy even at a good distance. Nisha works best with pistols and lasers, but it's up to you whether you use Jakobs or a rapid-fire gun for her. You can build her as a crit machine or a powerhouse.

- Aurelia is an unlikely choice, but good if you have a co-op partner. She has skills that boost critical hits and freeze enemies, along with reducing damage from enemies near her, so she's the "tankiest" sniper in the series, I think. You'd have to focus on her cryo tree, and go about half in on the sniper tree to get your money's worth. Alternatively, have your partner play as Aurelia, and you be her minion; she'll keep your health and shields topped off nicely, along with slowing enemies for you to mow down.

- Claptrap is... difficult to master. His left skill tree focuses more on explosive weapons, especially shotguns, while the middle tree is better for elemental weapons and SMGs. He's "okay" for a solo playthrough, but pretty low tier. He works much better in a team, as his far right tree is considered garbage by many due to the randomness factor, while his middle tree's skills mostly benefit a party more than a single player.

- Athena is VERY tanky, but I felt a little bored playing her solo. Her shield is very nice, and I think with Athena you'll typically be using shotguns and SMGs. She has a few melee skills, and is pretty good at blocking damage and crowd control.

- Jack can be built to either have your clones tank for you, or to be beefy bodyguards. Jack can really work with any gun type, but has an affinity for Hyperion guns, so... pistols and shotguns are your best bet.

I'd recommend you try out Wilhelm, Athena and Nisha's skill trees first. All three play very differently, but have their own rewarding, rush-in playstyle. Wilhelm's drones can provide cover fire and healing; Athena can tank an enemy's attack, then rush in while they reload; Nisha can kill everyone before they even know she's there.

If you liked Roland and Axton, then I'd suggest trying Wilhelm, I'd say he plays the most like the two of them.

I'd also suggest (should you ever go back to BL2) that you give Gaige a try, she's not identical, but she has some similarities to the other three.

All 4 of them summon A Thing That Fights.

Personally, I'd suggest you give all 16 characters (in BL1, BL2 and BL:TPS) a try. At least enough to get a feel for how they play.

One reason i like roland/axton is that i can run into a fight, throw out the turret when the shield is depleted and duck into cover to regenerate shield unfortunately both characters are unbalanced, way to op late in the game.

I tried gunzerker a few years ago up to level 11 and didnt work for me at all perhaps better when the skill trees are more upgraded.
Mecromancer(paige gaige?) tried recently level 30 character, the robot felt pretty useless for the ~20 minutes i played.

As for wilhelm, its the character i used 4 years ago worked fine but after almost 2 playthroughs, would like something different this time.

Sounds like Jack would be my best bet, as for athena im not a meelee styled player but might look into that charater as well.
