Nisha
Athena
Wilhelm
Claptrap
Aurelia
Nisha does a lot of damage, but her only heal is a kill skill, so she can be a little fragile. (Also, her sadistic attitude can be a little wearing at times).
Athena is very tough when her shield is up, but I feel like you have to do at least some melee to maximize her value. In terms of personality she's probably the one I like the best. She's got a stronger moral code than the others.
Wilhelm is probably the best all-around character in terms of mechanics. He's got no big standout abilities, but neither does he have any weaknesses. While he's not very moral, his monosyllabic grunts can sometimes be pretty funny.
Claptrap is ... well you know ... I mean there elements of ...
Let me start again. Claptrap is funny, but he's too weird for me to enjoy playing.
Timothy (Jack) feels too weird to me. He's presented as this meek, mild mannered personality who gets pushed into the role of Jack's body double, and doesn't have enough backbone to say no. Yet, he's a Vault Hunter. He goes into these truly terrifying situations and blows stuff up with aplomb. The dichotomy just doesn't work for me.
Aurelia feels like an after thought to me. The other characters (even Timothy) feel like they were already part of the game concept and dialog was built around them. Aurelia feels like she was built later and shoe-horned in. She doesn't quite feel like she fits.
@ Nakos, it sounds like you may've enjoyed playing Athena, Nisha & Wilhelm - since we're friendly from the other GBX forums, I feel comfortable asking you which classes you've played from lvl 1 up to 70 - any / all of those classes solo?
I'm pretty new to TPS just started this August + UVHM seems a little bit nerfed in TPS vs BL2, more rational to me, put it that way. Other thoughts:
+ Definitely enjoy the new game mechanics in TPS. Hope they include them as well as maybe some underwater / scuba type stuff in BL3!
+ Cryo, lasers & glitch guns are great adds - really fun developing strategies for them.
+ Doesn't seem tied to the SOSDD-type of overpowered 6 or 7 game items like BL2 suffered from & that's a relief. There are some great guns here but people don't speak of them as though they're holy or required - that eternal BL2 kind of chorus with DPUH, Norfleet, Bee, etc isn't present here & that's a big relief lol.
+ I prefer the skill trees here - seems like the designers spent a good amount of time developing them.
+ TPS' best raid boss rocks - better than BL2's best imho
Well, I pretty much only play solo, so all my experience is based on that.
I haven't actually gotten any classes to 70. I spend too much time poking around and trying different classes.
The one I've played the most is Nisha. Nisha is extremely dangerous. She can dish out huge amounts of destruction. She gets me to try different weapons and tactics than I use in BL2. Like for example, she's really good with Jacobs revolvers and shotguns. The heal thing can be annoying, since you can get into situations where you're hunkered down behind something, with only a sliver of health and no easy kills around.
On the other hand, that can also be exciting, but I do die a lot with her. I guess you could say she's like a better balanced Sal.
The next most played for me is Athena, since the game is really Athena's story, I wanted to play the canon character. She's really, really tough. At least when her shield is up. She also has a fairly long cooldown, so she's got a slower playstyle rhythm to get used to (than what I usually play). As I say, to really get the most out of her, I really feel like you have to do at least some melee (applying Rend).
That again isn't something I usually do, so it's a bit of an adjustment for me. There's also the issue of what guns can Athena easily reload with one hand.
And of course, she's the one who's really a "good guy" (at least as much as anyone is on Pandora). Some people find that boring, but I like it.
Wilhelm would be third for me. He's very solid. He feels a lot like Axton or Gaige in terms of how his action skill works. He's got lots of ways to recover health. Nothing really stands out about him, either good or bad. Some of his dialog is hilariously minimalistic/antisocial.
You should try Claptrap at least once. He's funny. I just like a bit more predictability in my game play.
"No"
"I'll pay you a couple million dollars"
"Ok"...
"Yup. That's my backstory"
My favorite build out of all the Borderlands games. I'm super tanky, and my dps can get pretty crazy.
It's all about your Expendable Assets skill to be... expendable. You want them to die as often as possible with Leadership so you're constantly receiving buffs to your weapon damage, hp/s, rate of fire, accuracy, reload speed and movement speed.
I might think about swapping Hero Pose for Persistance beacause with the amount of hp/s your recieving (up to 50%/s) you'll never go into FFYL and won't need the extra shield buffs, especially when Winning refills 25% of your shields per kill which would be all the time. The only time you'll be vunerable is when your action skill is on cooldown, so taking Persistence might be the better option.
As for weapons and equipment; I got a nice level 70 Cheat Code for beating the Claptrap DLC, super accurate and nice extra crit damage. An IVF is also a good replacement if you don't have the DLC. Ol' Rosie is also an amazing Laser weapon, great damage that also increases the longer you hold the trigger, perfect for Just Compensation skill. I also managed to pick up a Shift Code for the Naught shield by purchasing Tales from the Borderlands, a mediocre capacity/recharge rate shield but the recharge delay is instant, super usefull against DOT or minor damage. Celestial DoppelGanger is a key Class Mod to equip for that extra damage/crit/healing/skill duration
It's extensively and purposely nerfed. The two biggest differences are that only BA or higher enemies get the big power boost and health regen has been removed entirely. This softscaling is still one of the best mechanical features of this game IMHO.
