Section when escaping water
So, loving this game so far but the section where you have to escape the rising water is absolutely kicking my backside.

Not only is it some incredibly tricky platforming and timing but the section seems to go on forever. Is there any place to atleast save or maybe I'm missing something?

You're missing nothing. The game difficulty spikes at that point. As to whether there's a save/checkpoint part way along:No.

Urgh, I don't know whether i'm out of practice or what but I'm really finding it rough. How I managed to beat Megaman 2 and Ninja Gaiden when I was 8 years old I'll never know.

Lol, I'm terrible at platformers. I've not quite got to the point you're at so really looking forward to it ;-)

And thats the place where the game is over for me f...the water level

the general idea there is to bash everything...
bash lamps.. bash enemies.. bash enemy projectiles..
bash lamps to bash enemies to bash enemy projecectiles to bash lamps to.... etc.

and never stop. take your time, but never stop.

spoiler about the water level:
that section has some kind of dynamic difficulty. the water will never be much further than the bottom of the screen nomatter how fast you move, but it will also slow down when its near you. not by much mind you, but it does give you a little more time than you think.

Sadly, compared to later on, this part was a cakewalk. You just need to keep trying, and if you keep dying in the same spot, try something a little different.

This is the whole part together with all the collectibles. Its that amazingly hard tbh :) Just keep on trying :D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-q25AlWAis

Thanks for posting this, I didn't realise that on one run I actually had one lantern to go. Absolutely love this game but this is a frustratingly nasty difficulty spike.

Keep at it! I finally got past this section last night.. Basically there is no room for error. I must have died 30 - 40 times including a few rage quits before I manged to get through. I totally love this game.

I got this at the forteenth or sixteenth try :D

Keep at it, don't give up!
Thanks for the encouragement guys. Managed to beat it eventually, what a relief. Must admit, not really sure why the developers felt the need to add such a barrier to progression for so many gamers.

The water level is one of my favorites of the game. I just find the bash mechanic so fun to use in this part, and coupled with the music the level of epicness of this part is really high.

About why they have chase scenes after you restore each tree, I think it's to prepare you for the final chase scene when you run from Koru. It builds up to it the entire game, and finally gets to it at the end.

One very helpful tip with Bashing; when anticipating an incoming attack, hold the Y button *before* the attack gets close. You can't hold it too far ahead of time, but within a second or so, you can intercept an enemy or projectile without having to time it very perfectly.

You would basically not be able to play the second half of the game if you don't get used to repetitive bashing at some point though; so while it's a bit cruel to players who are learning slowly, it's really meant as a challenging "boss fight". That's why you get such a great track to listen to (AND a great cutscene if you beat it!)

+1 agreed. Bashing is necessary throughout the game and this boss level makes sure you know it before you progress

This is true. Trying to rush ahead as fast as possible causes the water to speed up. The water will always be right behind you - you have to dawdle a bit for it to catch up.
