Bannerlord Launcher keeps freezing when starting
Hello,

Ever since the latest 2 updates, I'm having an issue where I'm not able to launch Bannerlord.
The launcher freezes as soon as it's loading up, which is an issue I never had before.

I consulted the Common Issues and Workarounds thread and followed each step, and the game is launching from the "TaleWorlds.MountAndBlade.Launcher.Singleplayer.exe" application. However, this is not really desirable, as I cannot select any mods to run with the game this way. I tried verifying the game files, performed several clean installs (manually deleting all the leftover files after uninstalling) and tried to run prior versions of the game which did work for me in the past (up to 1.9), but none of this resolved the issues.

Interestingly, when I try to use the Mod Launcher from Nexusmods, the game launches but crashes shortly after, stating that the native files cannot be found. The modules involved with Native cannot be selected either, which I think is a necessity in order to run it this way. I never had this issue either, I was always able to select the native modules without issues. The launcher appears to think that certain files are missing in these modules.

Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance for your advice.

My game is doing the EXACT same thing. I have the following mods installed from the workshop:

Harmony
UIExtendedEx
ButterLib
Mod Config V5

More Arenas
Diplomacy
Cheats
Improved Garrisons
Enable Achievements

Game was working just fine since 1.0 and I had no issues like 40+ hours into a campaign.

Then I went on vacation and when I came back there were two small updates and now my game crashes/freezes during launch.

I'm beyond frustrated. I swear I have spent more time troubleshooting this game than any other game I've ever played. I think this game is literally unplayable without mods they are so needed.. ugh.

It really frustrating indeed, I can't even start the game the normal way without mods atm. I hope that the devs pick up on this soon, if I don't receive any reply by tomorrow I will log a support ticket.

Hi, I've logged a support ticket as asked a few days ago. How long does it usually take for the support team to respond? I don't want to be impatient, but I really want to play the game again.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Elyse,

Thanks for your reply.
I have seen that my ticket has been closed. What is the way forward on this issue? Will I receive an update in this thread henceforth?

I've forwarded the issue, and I will update this thread when there are any developments. :)

Hi Elyse,

Thanks for your reply. I received a comment on my ticket from support asking to go through some steps to workaround the issues, but these are the same steps I've already done before creating the ticket. I went through every step once more, just to be sure but it still doesn't work.

I think that the issue is related to some of the DLL files missing in the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Mount & Blade II Bannerlord\Modules\Native\bin\Win64_Shipping_Client" folder. There are only 4 in there, there should be more. I've tried to delete the bin folder and verifying the game files, but it only retrieves the same 4 DLL files again, nothing more.

I can run the game through the TaleWorlds.MountAndBlade.Launcher.Singleplayer.exe and TaleWorlds.MountAndBlade.Launcher.Multiplayer.exe files, but this won't allow me to select any modules.

Onedrive hasn't been set up on my gaming PC, I've doublechecked but there aren't any files there.

Is there perhaps a way to manually restore/download the missing files? I'm wondering if just adding them that way I could get my game to work, or at least troubleshoot and exclude whether or not the issues are caused by this.

Thanks in advance for your reply.

I did some extra checks using an old backup of the game which I had from a few months ago. I copied the folder where the game launcher is located, and used that to replace the launcher folder in the latest version. This seems to start the launcher.

I of course got a crash when proceeding to start the game from the launcher, but this does seem to indicate that the root cause has something to do with the launcher. The old launcher is starting without any freezes.

Hope that this helps with investigating the issue.

Even though I don’t wish it for anyone, I’m somewhat glad that it isn’t just me. But yeah, I also am not able to play anymore since the game got out of beta. Before that I never had any issues with launching the game. I also get the same loading circle whenever I try to launch from steam.

I did some more troubleshooting, and made sure to install the latest updates and drivers on my pc. I also upgraded from windows 10 to windows 11, had to do this at some point and was hoping that this could make a difference. Sadly, I still have the same issue. I did another reinstall of the game, and tried again without luck. Then, another walkthrough using the stickied thread with the workarounds.

I don’t know what else to do atm.

Hi Elyse,

Thanks for the advice, but I already did remove the mods and the folders you mentioned. I basically did a complete reinstall, even wiped my registry so there shouldn't be any leftover files from the previous installation.

As such, the logs I provided are out of date. here's the new log I receive after trying to launch the game:

Loading assembly: TaleWorlds.MountAndBlade.Launcher.Steam.dll

Assembly load result: SUCCESS

I just saw a new update, which I've installed now. But the issue is still not fixed for me.
I will do another attempt to verify my game cache and if that doesn't work, attempt another clean reinstall (also deleting all the folders mentioned).
