How to couch lance?

I bought a lance that has "couch lance" attribute and I saw video on youtube to press X to change weapon mode so that "couch" mode was activated for the lance. I also made sure X is setup for weapon mode change in key binds.

Now problem is that nothing happens when I press X. So how does one actually couch lance? In the video he just pressed X and it went into couch mode, but apparantly that doesnt do it for me.

yes I am travelling on my horse at max speed, nothing happens though. When I press X is there supposed to be a visual change so that I can SEE that the alternate (couch) mode has been activated?

There's an icon on your lower right corner that lights on to let you know your in couchable speed, once you hit x your lance will automatically lower to a horizontal position, so that's ur visual.

You sure you aren't confusing couching with bracing?

Are you using a lance? Some spears will say in their description "can't be couched" or something to that effect.

Now get into a battle and post a picture of your UI while having the spear inhand, you can see if the icon is in the bottom right.

You need to be going fast enough to use the ability, don't slow down, the ability will pop up once your at sufficient speed to use it. Another tip, double tap the forward key when still or just turned after slowing to kick your speed up to help you get back to full.

What is your horse? If it slow sumpter or saddle horse you won't be able to couch lance with it. Try weird name and expensive horse. Anything with speed >40 will do.

The UI will show small lance icon when you reach appropriate speed. Although most lance is bloody short, you would fair better with 'Cataphract lance', a long spear which longer than most pike.

Like Nahasawi for example, which is a tier 4 horse. Anything from tier 2 would do then, like midlands palfrey (47 speed)

It's working for me now, not sure why i couldnt figure it out earlier. Now I just press X when at high speed and not pressing or holding anything else and he puts the lance in the couch position.

Some spears can also be "braced" on foot with the same button as couching a lance. It does a lot more damage to incoming horses.

The spear in question should tell you if it can be braced or couched.

Get Battanian Reinforce Highland spear. It's 223 long smth couchable. You can now finally poke those looters before their pitchforks reach your horse and stun lock it.
