Lances are useless

Lances are by far the worst weapon you can get assigned in a tournament. The long delay between mouse click and thrust makes it impossible to hit anything.
I hate those tournaments where you get sorted in big groups and everyone is on a horse and has a lance. It takes ages to end a round.
I can win pretty much any fight with any weapon as long as it's not one of those awful lances.
Couldn't we get an alternative secondary weapon for the lance please, like we have with bows? I'd rather fight with a seax, pugio, or a dagger crafted with smithing skill 0 than this pointless stabbing into the air where my opponent was two seconds ago.

Used to hate those long lances in tight quarters for the longest time too, avoiding all Vlandian tournies. Takes getting used to the timing. Once you do, its more reliable to one shot your opponent on the initial pass. Or in group fights just keep making long passes up and down instead of sitting in melee.

I have yet to hit anything with a lance. I think it's the dev's trolling us.
Ha, I was chased by a bandit with a lance and he couldn't hit me with it even when I stood still for him. They are really magic smoke fairy wands.

lances where much better in warband. Used to be able to hit without clicking the mouse button at all. you just aimed the lance and hit when you hit... how you have to time your attacks..
Is there a mod that makes lances work like in warband? where at speed you lower the lance and can hit anything without using mouse buttons?

meanwhile i solo a 100 unit lord with lance only... how about you look at your skill in fighting before you say something in the game isnt working right?

lances are the worst melee weapon for foot combat but guess what... all weapons are great. none is bad

Press X if the polearm in question can be used as a couched lance. Need to be at a certain speed for it to be possible. The UI even has an indicator lighting up near your HP bar and equipped weapons to tell you can now couch it.

and there is a perk to stay in this mode as long as you kill with the hit

You have to get a couchable lance and then you can couch it and it will work like you describe. When no button press you just do damage when the lance strikes.

What do you mean? It's really easy to hit with a lance. I can kill entire enemy parties alone with a lance.

I am devastating my opponents with a couched lance, your timing must be wrong.
It's not so complicated really. Aim click something like 10 meters before contact and it's dead.

You just got to get used to them is all. I had the same problem with the large two handed swords, because I sucked at parrying and that is your only choice. Though I got used to it, and now it isn't that much of a problem(still a pain early game where you have crap armor so you need hit them 5 times and they only need to hit you like once or twice).

You know you can hold the mouse click to prepare the attack then release it when you are ready? Narrows the timing window needed quite a bit.

You can do this with any weapon by the way.
