Map Movement Speed
I don't know about anyone else, but I feel like this system is broken.

I have Map Speed set to very easy (10% bonus) and over 1300 horses, and yet I cannot for the life of me catch up to enemy armies on foot. I have Scouting at 96.

Party speed is:
+2.59 Base
+0.23 Cavalry
+0.66 Footmen on horses
-0.01 Cargo within capacity
-0.01 Herd
-0.15 Prisoners
+0.13 High Morale
+1.29 Game Difficulty

Is there anyway to boost Map Movement speed further so I can actually engage with the enemy without being outnumbered 3:1 so they don't just run away forever? Can I mod the difficulty settings to have it give a bigger bonus?

Nice little mod called "Can't run Forever", makes it so enemies slow down when you are chasing them, without compromising balance

If thats true, then there is no point buying regular horses. We could fill the inventory with mules without any penalty.
Unsure whether higher tier horses contribute more speed. I havent tested.

Your effective speed should be 4.73.

Add more cavalry troops to your army and you should increase your speed significantly.
With more Cavalry you can get +1 or +2 speed to your army.

If you have more horses than you need (including mules and actual horses) it starts to get you slow down actually. You have to fine tune how many horses you have on inventory.

1 horse for 1 unit(you and any companion also count as one) and some carrier horses&mules. Just keep buying until it starts to get your movement speed down. (you can open extra informations like your movement speed by hitting little triangle on right side bar).

As a infantry khuzait with mostly mounted units and %10 speed bonus, also some perks increasing movement speed as infantry&party movement bonus perks etc. I have around 7.4 map speed.

This slow down is called Herd and happens regardless of horses when you have more animals in your army than people can handle. Herd is relitevely benine though and as you can see above it only accounts for -0.01 of his speed which is pretty much nothing. Probably isn't fully implemented yet.

Even without the herd debuff, you have to understand a large-sized army is always inherently slower than a smaller band of people. Very high skill in athletics or riding, higher ration of horsemen in the army, extras horses et. al contribute to offsetting much of those penalties, but in the end, if the smaller group has also has solid amount of relative buffs, then it's just not going to happen.

You need to balance out the size of your armies if you want to catch smaller, more nimbler band of people.

I am playing beta 1.2 and after reaching certain number of horses, every extra horse i get into inventory(carrier or normal ones) actually decreases my map speed 0.1 each, if i remember correctly. As you add more it keeps decreasing.

Might need to check it though, i usually stop buying horses when it starts to decrease my speed.

do you have 400 units? As far as ive been able to tell, Base speed is only affected by your athletic skill if you are on foot, riding skill if on horse and the amount of troops you have. 2.6 base speed is pretty low.

my base is 3.64
+2.18 from cav
-0.02 from herd
-0.02 from cargo
+0.08 from high morale
5.86 total

I can easily catch anything in the game except for desert bandits and maybe some caravans or small looter groups could be a bit too fast for me, but I have 240 units on me at the moment sieging cities.

I'd normally have +1.2 from cav and +0.8-1.1 for footman on horses but I've got vassals with me at the moment bringing all the footman for me. Got a herd of warhorses on me all of these units are Khuzait raiders/Khuzait noble line still only t2/t3s so gotta use the warhorses mid war, not like any of em are ever gonna die horse archers op.

Thanks, tried this mod and it helps remove a lot of the frustration.

Going by the math of the base speed formula, you must have something like 835 troops.

So basically you modded the game to the point that you have armies way, way bigger than you are ever expected to have, and then are upset that your party moves slow?

Big armies move slower. This is a good thing, because if they didn't you would get your ass handed to you by 500 man khuzait horse armies speeding around the map like death trains.

I've heard your speed is also set to the slowest unit in your party (it would explain why groups of 30 looters have a movespeed of 3.0 something, where you can have a base of 4 point something with 50-80 troops), so you might have a bunch of guys with terrible athletics slowing things down. And you also probably just have an absolutely massive army, having lots of troops slows you down a lot.

Athletics and riding skills play no effect on the campaign map. It just matters if your troops are on horses or if you have enough horses for all the troops on foot. All men on horses is up to a 30% bonus, while all cavalry is a 60% bonus. Then there are penalties from being over capacity and such. Base speed is solely from # of troops.
