Troop Skill levels don't affect anything
So there is a Reddit thread where a guy tested out the impact of skills(1h, throwing, etc) on troops(not heros nor player character) and it turns out troops with 10 points in these fared the same as troops with 2,000. The only exception was athleticism which affected the troops( my guess as a result of their needing them to calculate map speed).

Reddit link below:

Anyone know if the Devs ever plan to make them matter?

Also, since they don't affect anything, I'd like to know about equipment. Is there a way to see what equipment your troops use?

well the devs just released a patch where they said they said "Common troops now generally have higher weapon skills." so it seems like the devs must think their skill levels do something.

Maybe they meant they increased their dmg?
In what way? Its not like a individual troop has a damage stat. The only thing that should effect damage different between troops is skills and weapons.

Weapon skills do have a small effect on combat AI from what I understand. But yea, let's face it, the Devs could have 0 idea or are purposely ignoring for now because it is a big issue to fix.

Are you really going to notice a sword singing 5% faster though?

Also, setting the skill points to 2,000 may have broken something. Did he perform the test with troops at say, 240 or 250 skill level?

Go to your SandBoxCore/ModuleData/spnpccharacters.xml and just search for the troop you are curious about. You'll find everything about them there.

If they were ignoring it they wouldnt be highlighting changes.
personally i don't believe it because i've seen what my OP Shieldmaiden companion does to people in a tournament even when she's not wearing armour, although i will conceed thats not a unit.

You could just follow the link?

He did the test with 10, 400, 2000 skill

The only skill that did work was Athletics and 2000 Athletics was like sonic.

None of the skills effect dmg, however there is a slight effedt on AI fightingg. The skills do effect hero characters. Just not troops/

This test is unreliable. The highest skill level in game is 280 right now and it is (nearly) impossible to reach level 400. Level 400 might exceed the limit and have no more effect.

I think skill level only increase swing speed

I just lost 6 legionaires to aserai recruits and they were outnumbered 50 to 30. I play on highest difficulty.

Wouldn't be surprised if troops didn't actually get perks, meaning missing out on stuff like +70% or so polearm damage vs. mounts.

Skill level does not impact damage dealt. Only some perks do.

Weapon Skills give 0.15% bonus dmg per level and 0.07% attack speed per level. This is currently working on hero units.

I am not sure but in tournaments I had often the feeling that ai units with higher skill level use their weapons more efficient - they block better, hit better, know better how to use openings

while the skill level has no effect on how much damage a unit does, the ai seems to work (somewhat) according to the skill

Awesome, I'll take a look thanks. I still wish there was a feature to see their equipment in-game.
