Steward skill helps, staying there, escorting farmes to the city etc.

Well if I remember correctly, villages accumulate a number of Hearths over time. It might reset if it's raided. If it hasn't been raided in a long time, it might be that that's the only description that it can say right now.

Hearths are an indicator of how well theyre doing but there is no additional information on how to increase it or why it goes down etc. Put someone with a decent steward skill in the ruling castle and it should help out.

Check your Perks for bonuses. Keep the Villagers safe as they travel to market.

One thing that might help, but I can't be sure, would be any Quests that had anything to do with trade/markets/economy. I don't know that Villages give those sorts of quests right now, though. Most seem related to increasing Rep for access to better units. The one I can remember, and have yet to see, was a "Cow Quest." Traditionally in Warband, those were tied to a Village's prosperity.

Villages take time to recover from Raids. Other than Perks, there's not much there right now to help speed that up.

You can donate troops to village militia and the travelling villagers. This helps deter bandits. Hearth growth is slow (+1 per day) but if your villagers aren’t killed your bound castle food production will increase.

Ah thanks I hadn't seen that before. Does it hurt village growth because of food? Or is there a hidden wage that you know of?
