There has got to be a better way of recruiting in late game.
I'm so tired of travelling half way across the map to get my favourite cavalry, then travel half way back to continue conquering.
Why can't I send one of my companion, tell them to recruit X num of type of troops, then return to me ASAP?

In fact is there a mod that does this?

the mod 'Improved Garrisons' does this. you can form a 'recruiter party' (manually or automatically) made of your garrison troops that will go out and recruit/train up any units you want.

There really isnt any better way. However, it would be nice if cultures shifted over time.

you cant recruit samurai in the USA or greek-hoplit in china... i think this is realistic.
every unit can do the job... it doesnt need to be your favorite elite-unit.

Most high tier cavalry can be recruited by capturing bandits of the correct type, recruiting them as they become available, and upgrading them if you have the right perks.
Also you can capture them as you fight, and instead of selling them, just leave the surplus in one of your towns' dungeon.

Late game the prisoners in your party are best used as recruitment pool.

Do you think Alexander the great would go back to Greece to recover his army? Armies have messengers, supply lines, key strategic locations for this very purpose.

But not in Calradia.

I like to use elite troops of whatever culture i'm building my kingdom in, so I try to take over a couple of castles near the borders. Then I do favors for all the village big shots, and when they are happy, tthey supply me with lots of troops. Good troops and not those ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ T1s.

Make them happy, and they will pony up more troops, too. It's not unusual to get 12 - 15 or more elites from a village. A dozen elites per village times 4 villages, plus whatever else is there, and your recruiting run is well worth the effort.

There is no dispatching companions to recruit in this game, and there are no real supply lines to use, so your options are to either work with the system as it is, or cheese it in with a mod.

But if you're going to mod, you might as well just open the console and cheese in some troops that way.

The weird thing is that right now the game hardly lets you communicate instruction to the AI at all :/ I do miss in warband where you could instruct allies to attack certain places or run in a certain direction etc etc it seems like the devs know how to set that stuff up but for some reason its not in the game yet

you can disband every armys if you want.

and you can make your own army with some lords/partys to lead the big important battles.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.
