I don't know how Bannerlord deals with "custom starts." I've long wanted unlockable custom starts to spice up gameplay and give a purpose to slogging through wet cardboard late-game gameplay for hours on end... But, nope, there isn't anyone at TW with any imagination.
But, they ripped out the Campaign and coughed up "Sandbox" mode in a week (or similar, in "TW devtime" units) after repeated complaints... and they can't or won't try to add some flavor to this pile of mush? /sigh
Note: Couldn't find anything similar to RS's "Shattered World" thing, if that's what you were talking about. But, some custom multiplayer server might be able to replicate it.
Ah, a sort of "War of the City States" sort of setting?
A good merc company could make some serious cash, there... :)
There's also a mod that adds quite a few independent/mercenary clans to hire out. It works fairly well when every clan is its own faction.
Ultimately, I got bored, because clans run out of money super fast, then they all just sit around doing nothing. I was considering trying those two mods and giving every clan a bunch of gold to see how things shake out though.
