1 - No. You will be at war with who they are at war with. However, you will not lose reputation permanently with those you fight. That will be reset when you are no longer a mercenary for your faction.
2 - No.
3 - You won't be awarded any fiefs as a Mercenary.
4 - If your faction that you Merc for is at peace with them, you can do all the normal "peaceful" things with them.
5 - If I interpret you correctly, yes, you can just run around attacking bandits. But, the primary reason for becoming a Mercenary is to be able to get loot from large battles you could not participate in otherwise.
Edit: See here - https://gamerempire.net/mount-blade-2-bannerlord-how-to-become-a-mercenary/
and i cannot be a mercenary if i play a trader when we are in peace and because have nothing to do they decide to declar war on the contry i have some caraven, again i will lost all instantly...,
so, the mercenary it's not for me, i have thinking we can choose what we want to do but it's seem no, so the empire will not have my beautiful body in her army they fight for her, if i mush dye in combat, it's will be for me or my wife (If i can find one somewhere ha ha ha) but never for or because of the money...
Where it differs is that influence is converted directly into sums of gold at regular intervals. That's your main income as a mercenary.
could be my mods but it appears for me at least being a Merc does not inpact your workshops!
and i had caravans traveling around during war time there pretty fast so they are not the easiest to catch
2 - Not until you become a vassal and get your fief from where you can send caravans
3 - The fief is already offered to a vassal, not a mercenary - this is an increase in status and the opportunity to participate in decision-making.
4 - Almost everything. Except attacking other peaceful lords. This is the privilege of vassals and kings.
5 - you can be a mercenary and recruit one and a half hundred good warriors, but you can keep them without a fief only by constant battles with enemies and the sale of slaves and property captured in battle
