How do I train troops efficiently?
As the tittle says I've noticed in this game they never introduce a skill or way to train troops passively like in warband, so far I've found it to be a grind fest. either I chase down small parties and get no xp, or larger parties and loose half of the troops I'm trying to train, with meager returns, how do I get some decent troops without spending hours and hours irl to do so?

Bandit hideouts are good for levelling troops. You can save, first if you want, so you can have do-overs. I'm partial to hitting Sea Raiders.
There are literally a dozen perks that give your troops passive exp. My suggestion is to take a few minutes to look at the skill tree and figure out how you want to spec to get to those perks.
During peace time, protect caravan missions are very good for this.
Usually the caravan gets attacked by about 10 groups of easy bandit parties.
In case you didn't know, you can discard weapons and armor to give your troops exp if you have the corresponding perks in the steward tree. Combined with whatever money making operation you have, it's easy to level any troop if you just go from town to town buying up equipment.

Very gamey though. Especially combined with smithing. It seems like the equivalent of leveling training on multiple companions and just waiting somewhere.

This is how I've been doing it my problem now is my army is to good to pay the upkeep almost.
Hideouts is good for levelup companions. Normal troops is still looters.
Ride around them so they scatter, some horse cavalry do it for you.
Set your formation so the formation attacking is lower soldiers. Yes you can sort them somewhat. Heavy armor is higher level.
Donating armor is decent but not good. It works better when your party is 100 troops plus.
Steward perks 100 and 125 I believe, the ones where you can "donate" discarded loot weapons and armor after a battle (or just in the inventory discard while travelling) directly for troop EXP. By far the most effective and least risky method since you don't need to expose the units you are training this way.

Simplify it even more by just having archers take out groups of looters before they can even come into range, then "donate" the loot to the party, levelling up your troops anyway.

there is no mandatory need to train troops. it goes naturrally with fighting, stewardship and gear donating.

You missed several skills that let troops gain passive xp....there is also some steward skills that let you donate weapons and armor to give troops xp.
Training "tall" armies doesn't work because AI sucks.

Units cannot hold formations and do not execute typical team tactics you'd expect from these kinds of engagements, your elite units often break off from the group and they get dogged down by ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ units.

Commonly you see Your t5 randomly die, but you only train 2-3 t2 units to the next level. Which is a Loss in my book.

Get realistic battles mod turn off everything , but the AI module. It will at least fix some of the issues for BOTH yourself and the enemy. Related to randomness of the AI.
Your infantry will loose less elites . and in turn you will be able to work tactics around the strong core.
Hopefully your tier 5 elites will stop dying to Looters randomly.

i usually throw all t6 troops into garrison and train t2-t5 troops while fighting constant non stopping war.
Units also share XP for units of the same type. So if you have say, 100 highborn archers, but only 40 of them level in a battle, you can either level all of those 40 to the next level; OR you can wait and they boost the xp for the rest of the highborn archers to level them faster. This mechanic works only for units of the same exact type. It doesn't share between all your units for units from their respective kingdoms.

When I want to bolster garrisons but don't want to dump a boatload of tier 1 units, I'll just recruit a large amount from surrounding areas, find bandits or looters or just any low count enemies and kill them. Wait until I can level up all of them at once and repeat the process until I have a large amount of higher tier units to put back into the garrison.
You don't.
Easiest part would be recruit prisoners.
Put them in dungeon, after sometime they will submit to you.

I went through the pain of trying to get 30ish Sturgian recruit into an army of Heavy Axe men. Only 10 made it to Heavyaxemen. One of HAM die due to duel with a F*CKING LOOTER. SIGH.

War with Sturgian and capture their troop then recruit is much faster, though.

Forced recruitment from villages.

Constant source of new recruits + easy xp from villages trying to resist you. Its a fast and efficient way of building your first army.
