Vladian units are really bad
Vladian's units really struggle on the battlefield. They seem to be very weak compared to other factions. I don't know if it's the AI or what but they die very fast and really struggle to kill anything. (I'm playing at 100% damage)

If any of you had any success with the Vladians, what is the composition of your army?

Cavalry and crossbows, everything else they have is sub par to other nations.

Really? Vlandians are dominating in my current southern empire game.
Their Knights and xbows are a force to be reckoned with. Elite cataphracts might have better armor but Banner Knights actually have a couchable lance, making their charges do much more damage. My elite cataphracts do ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on a charge even against looters.
Their infantry is not very good but that is not the focus of their roster.

Vlandian voulgiers are the best shock infantry in the game
Sharpshooters outrange fians since a recent update, so they are really good

Stand in the middle of a field and tell that to my squadron of T6 Banner Knights. I believe they would disagree.

One reason the AI is really effective with them could be Banner Knights having the highest skills among noble troops. Simulation battle effectiveness is calculated based on those. But in real time battles they are not as amazing due to cavalry AI issues.

Another reason would be your presence in the east. You're basically keeping northern and western empires on their toes, which gives Vlandia and perhaps even Sturgia some breathing room to strike at their neighbors.

Still, Vlandia and Khuzaits are the two most consistently well performing factions in games I have played.

Vlandians have the best crossbow units in the game.

Lmao your delusional.

60 sharpshooters that start firing from 150m while 80 banner knights are charging from the side disagree with you.

I'd like to point out that high tier infantry are not bad either and they have blunt weapons

their pikeman suck big time, voulgier dominates battlefield you just need to keep them safe from missile

crossbow are really good since they have high dmg and able to tank hits even when charged by cavalry

Most Vlandian T5 troops have a lot weaker armour than all other factions' T5 troops. I think their infantry's armour is less than 40, while other faction's troops are in the 50's or high 40's.

they need to give pikeman ability to dismount calvary with falling dmg, otherwise pike brace just useless

As others said, sharpshooters and banner knights are very good. The rest of the roster is mediocre compared to other factions though.

What?

Their T2 crossbows already pack a punch. Their infantry (and I don't mean the spearman line) can go toe-to-toe with mainline infantry of all other factions, so it's not like you lack the tanks to focus enemy infantry on before your crossbows and cavalry does the work.

Billmen/Voulgiers are murder, if you bother getting them into melee range safe. The only reason vanguard is ignored is the noble troop tree.

You want mediocre, try Aserai lower tiers, or Sturgian infantry until top tier (T4 spearman with 24 body armor FTW /s)
Yeah, the whole line of crossbows are decent, but we are talking about end game troops are we not?

The sergeants are only decent, they are not as good as empire troops. The voulgiers have high damage but no shield so pretty vulnerable to ranged.

They are manageable but not anything impressive like the sharpshooters and banner knights.

I'd also rather put my money on menavliatons instead of voulgiers, in any situation. But maybe it's just my playstyle of relying heavily on light cavalry that enables or promotes that scenario.

Voulgiers still are still dangerous of course, but keeping them at a safe distance is usually easy, and the Vlandian infantry isn't durable enough to protect them, unlike legionaries can do with menavliatons.

Vlandian knights outgun every other heavy cavalry in all the simulations I've run, and their crossbow units are second to only mercenary elite crossbows (but they have ♥♥♥♥ tier armor and melee ability).

Their infantry line is just that, defensive infantry meant to form a wall.
