Does selling prisoner army leaders at the tavern turn them back over to their faction?
Does selling prisoner army leaders at the tavern turn them back over to their faction?

I am wondering if holding on to them is the best thing to do if so.

Nobles, yes. Bandits and looters? I think they're just de-spawned, but since bandits and looters regenerate randomly, that could be what the lore says, even if it isn't how it actually works.

Not really much else you can do with them, really, except release them (which seems to do the same thing) or slowly recruit them. And since nobles escape at the drop of a hat, it's either execute them or rush to the nearest city you can ransom them at.

Selling them at a tavern = ransoming them back to there factions.
Putting them into a prison owned by someone from your faction = influence instead of money

Currently the number of Lords is still much to low for the game, and the games system of replacing lords isn't in place yet so the developers have artificially sped up how fast lords escape from prison, and have given them cheat starting forces until these systems are updated (next beta patch will make lords stay in confirnement longer though)

Until then basically think of it like this. Use tavern's for money, use prisons for influence. Money is important at first but influence becomes much more important later on. Just do what you need done.

Your basic choices are, once you've decided to take them prisoner...

* Ransom them; they go free immediately, you get some denars
* Hold them until they escape (in two days, currently), which delays them somewhat and gives you no money
* Release them for nothing at all
* Donate them to a friendly lord's dungeon; you get influence; I don't know whether they get auto-ransomed or whether it depends on the lord's financial situation or w/e
* Execute them, which will antagonize much of the nobility and enrage their clan, as noble lives are considered actually important (unlike the lives of the commoners they'll happily murder)

Might be able to barter with them as well, haven't tried to see whether that's ever actually worth looking into.

You can trade them to other lords for fun and profit but I think they just respawn with a full army back in their lands if you do that. Honestly the quickspawning of lords you have vanquished in whatever way you get rid of them almost makes the game unplayable. These guys are not just comming back with a stack of peons, they come come back with calvary, and teir 3-4 troops sometimes, 80+ of em. This wears down your army after a while and just gets INCREDIBLY tedious. I have almost broken down and started mass executing lords because I got sick of seeing the same names pop up every 15 minutes trashing my villages. Nothing you do can slow them down except killing them and eventually you dont have enough army to stop them. Heck if they just came back with peasants/recruits i wouldnt even be mad.

Target practice.

Instead sometimes hey come back with better units than they showed up with the first 5 times in that hour. Anybody know a mod that fixes that?
