AION Free-to-Play

NA vs EU publishers?
Hello,

I remember playing Aion a long time ago on the NA publisher's service.
I've been thinking of trying the game again and I see that we will have the version published in EU by Gameforge on Steam.

Can anyone of the current players, or someone that is well informed, let me (us) know what the difference between the NA and EU publishers currently is?

I know that Gameforge is pretty much a money-hungry company. I played their version of Elsword for a long time but it wasn't that terribly bad, at least compared to the NA one.

I remember Aion being heavily restricted with a bad cash shop and so on, in EU (Gameforge), which made me run away and I went playing on the NA version.

Is it still the same and in what kind of situation is the game?

I look forward to your answers and thank you in advance.

Regards,
TehGre

na for the win
This thread seems to have been heavily moderated (what else would you expect from GF, lol), but I'll give it a try.

1. Both are bad. There is no such thing as a good Aion localization, because even the Korean devs do not care about the game.
2. Latency. You don't really get to choose where to play. I was playing on NA servers for years, mostly PvP, but in the past months the lag became so bad, that I've decided to reroll on EU. It might be better if you are using ping-reducing tunneling services, but it'll still have a huge effect on PvP in this game.
3. Subscription. NA is F2P, EU is P2P. You can buy 30-day subscription packs in game on EU, but there is no playing without one.
4. Update delay. NA gets updates 5 months from KR, EU — 10 months. {COLLEGAMENTO RIMOSSO}

There are more differences that aren't as important. In-game economies are very different. Cash shop and events are different (neither is more P2W than the other). Support is bad on NA, but worse on EU. Community management is terrible on both. Population is low on both. EU rookie server doesn't give bonus XP.
funnily enough when we used to play the NA server we didn't have any ping problem till gameforge kept moaning about all the eu players switching to NA. all of a sudden it was mega lag so i just gave up the game all together

yeah nice theory boy, or the servers just went bshit or you didnt notice before. I hate gameforge, but still, thats one of the most retarded statement i've ever read
"last time i played the EU version was almost a year behind in pathces and content...."

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ once again.

Don't ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ trust people over the internet, always verify your informations with given source (or find your own).

EU is 3 months behind NA, NA is between 1 to 2 months behind KR.

You are delusional. 4.8 was 6.5 months behind KR on NA servers, 10 months on EU. 4.75 — 5 months NA, 10 months EU. And that's compared to KR Live version, not PTS.

As far as the shop goes, Aion is rather fair. It has a kind of a hidden subscription via the gold packages, but no real P2W, as games like Neverwinter or ArcheAge have. If you want to spend more time playing you will need gold packages, but likely you will also be able to afford buying them with in-game currency at the trade post.

New content is released sooner in NA though and the upcoming server merge ruins Aion for all players who spent a lot of effort on housing. For most new players this will be acceptable however.

I don't know the community on the NA-servers, but I don't think it get worse than the one on the EU ones. Nobody helps new players there or even answers their questions. There are lots of gankers here. Cheaters are hardly ever punished on the EU servers.

Oh, and at one point I fully agree with KillerAtWar: Guild Wars 2 is better and in my opinion the best MMORPG currently available.
Question. Why would you play steam version that is EU runned by greedy money milking suck company like gameforge, while you can safely play right from the source: NC soft.

I play GW1, GW2, Wildstar on NC soft and they are solid company. You can play Aion right from the source, no matter your location. Big F to gameforge ;)
Ping, that's why.
You probably like being slow as ♥♥♥♥ and play with only one fingers, but in Aion, ping and fast execution has a big impact on the gameplay.

As much as i'd love to play on NA, the ping make it impossible.
Messaggio originale di Rzep:
Nothing has changed and Gameforge is still the worst thing to happen to online gaming and MMOs in Europe. Their servers are unstable, the content is delayed, the cash shop is awful. The last time I played buying the Gold pack or subbing was almost essential to enjoy the game. Gameforge still ignores their playerbase regardless which game we are talking about.

Gameforge still does not care about their games or their players. The only pro of playing the Gameforge version is obviously better ping.

True, as a TERA USA player (coming from EU) I can guarantee you this is 100% true.

Gameforge is the worst publisher ever. They are pure trash.
Don't glorify NCSoft too much. While it is certainly true, that GW1 and GW2 have better support, no cheaters, no bots etc. etc., they are made and run by ArenaNet. Though ANet belongs to to same company, they are a different team. Aion was not so much different in the EU when it was run by NCSoft from Aion today run by Gameforge. It had cheaters and bots then and it has them now. Gameforge is no greedier than any other company, they just didn't improve on the aspects of gameplay Aion was already bad at. A lot of problems within Aion are caused by the game itself, not the publisher. Having played both Aion and GW2 from the release, I don't think GF the greedier or more evil company, but GW2 is just the better game.

The community may likely be better in NA, however. That is: It can't really be worse.

People likes to think that the grass is greenier on the otherside, but they fail to remember how Aion was in 2.5 / 2.7 when NCsoft was running it...
Oh yes! Grinding blood stains night after night in Bot-uslan, a collection of failed Fenris-hearts, cheaters one-hitting your party in the dred in the first minute. The good old times were not so good after all.
Don't forget the guys in 50 Elite with stormwings weapons +15 wich two-shoots you because you did'nt even had one pvp parts, and not even Crucible PvP Gear.

Ah the good old times, i miss Esoterasse tho
I am in NA and Aion is not showing for me and when try to link ot hte steam page from aion's page I get game not available in my region I AM IN NORTH AMERICA
