Easiest difficulty overtuned
I quite enjoyed the game, but found even on the absolute lowest difficulty, thats described as being for someone who's never played an RTS, I still found things extremely difficult.

It seems like things need to be toned down, at least on the supposed cakewalk difficulty.

For cakewalk difficulty it is anything but.

Considering this is based on They Are Billions, winning should be hard.

which is why neither of us said it should be brain dead easy.

This is only true if you play no pause IMO. With pause, the easiest difficulty is easy. With no pause, you have a game that gives you less time between income cycles than TAB and AOD to build while at the same time demanding more micromanagement due to the connectors.

Yep. I have RTS experience going back to Dune 2, and quit around four times while seeing my buildings get wrecked. Then I tried again, trying to do everything right, and still lost easily to the final wave. The double horde easily overran two walls with double laser turrets and 6 or so units guarding each.

Between waves I had basically no time to develop more than the most necessary buildings and few units. Spaceship? What, no, you orbital guys don't get my attention. Robo factory? Yeah right, when am I going to get 450 spare effort so that I can divide my effort even further between projects?

Also, I never understood how the captain works. Don't know which unit that even is, let alone how to use the special abilities.

Update: I tried again with an Effort-heavy strategy, around 10 Habs plus telling the spaceship to build an Effort-generating thing. Result: "WE'RE UNDER ATTACK WE'RE UNDER ATTACK" every 30 seconds or so, with no chance to build a barracks because I'm barely able to keep the pumps and solar panels up. I give up!

I'd like to see what the last setting is like. The 3 we have so far are pretty (easy) once you get the hang of things and I do like how the game really hammers you when you do make a mistake like pushing to hard, not watching for incoming waves, not using pause. Its good stuff.

maybe a care bear mode or something?

Managed to complete my second run through without much issues using the smaller ship and Android commander.

You definitely need to be effort and water heavy to start and cannot ignore the benefits of your ship.

The ships cannons are on the top right of the hud and will wipe out large chunks of mobs.
Each ship sector can be upgraded, instead of building more. So go with the small undamaged ship. This is what saved my entire run.

Getting your thumper network expanded is also vital to preventing goo from just popping up out of the ground on top of your base.

Finally, less lasers and more mortars is best. The lasers will ramp up and pretty much consume as much energy as you can generate, so mid game start going heavy on it. Especially if you're short on mortar teams.

Your captain is the large marine, there's a shortcut for them on the bottom right. Using attack move at the start and getting levels is a massive benefit to the entire colony. Their special powers appear as buttons on the right.

The goo activity works very similar to TaB zombies, except you should consider the entire map as 'infested' and anywhere outside of your thumper range they can pop up out of the ground based on how much noise your squads are making.

Please do not make this game easier, don't listen to these people! Easy was easy!
