Pretty much this. Always start a new save game to avoid any bugs/glitches but it should be safe to patch a 9.1 game with 9.2.
Adding the vampire.exe shortcut as a non-Steam game will give you the overlay if you've tried everything else....
this is the only real problem i had with the 9.2 patch
I never even knew about that dialogue. Is that in the basic version of the patch though?
There is dialogue that lets you pass, something along the lines of "the game is so hard, i'm a wimp".

I suggest temporarily disabling it to download.
I'm glad you decided to continue on with the patch. Most people freak out when they see antiviruses giving up false positives :)
Character creation is normal with done of the additional options.
How do I do the Plus version on. The Patcher did not have a patch for it.
