Ramped up difficulty with unofficial 8.8 Patch? Graveyard Zombies... WTF
NOTE, this post contains possible spoilers for a side mission, if you haven't finished the game and don't want to be spoiled, don't read.....

Anyways. First time playing this game after watching Cry do a play through of it. I'm at the part where you go to pick up the partial tape from the burial place of the actress and wanted to do that little side mission for Romero, where you're meant to keep the zombies from busting down the front and rear gates.

I'm using the Unofficial Patch Ver 8.8 Plus (plus version with unlocked content). Well, I get to to this mission and everything is fine and dandy. there's quite a few but nothing I can't handle. Up until about when you have 1:45 to 2:00 left on the timer. Then it's like all hell breaks loose. Literally, zombies popping out of the ground one after another after another, even saw two pop out at nearly the same time. So I've been out of the M700 ammo by now, used my Colt Anaconda and found that using the Katana is the quickest way to deal with them. Usually kills them in either 1 or 2, worst case, three strikes. Yet, no matter HOW fast I kill them at either gate, there is ALWAYS the same amount around me, constantly respawning, and it's even worse at the other gate because I haven't been over there to regulate. So they are able to bust down the front gate no problem, quick as hell, and if I try to run over there really quick and do a little culling, the back gate immediately gets broken down.

I've tried this little side mission MULTIPLE times, each time trying something different, from trying to focus more on one gate, to focusing on both gates equally, spending a decent amount of time at each making sure to get a good bit of them, and even running back and forth, back and forth, only concentrating on the ones closest to the gate and the ones at the gate about to bust it to pieces..

Did they ramp up the difficulty of this side mission an insane amount or something? Because when I watched Cry's play through, he didn't even run out of ammo for the M700 before the timer was up and was able to complete the mission. Literally, he was concentrating near the back gate for most of the time, and toward the end, frolicked over to the front gate, and killed two (yes, only two) zombies trying to bust it down. Mission complete..

What the heck is going on? Is there any benefit to doing this mission if it's pretty much impossible to complete? Because I get a Masquerade Violation out of it if it's failed. I mean, what, do I only get this M700 (with ZERO ammo by time I'm done) and either a box of damn bullets or my Firearms stat raised slightly?

I´m pretty sure this is the game, not the patch. I have tried this quest in the late game, when I´m basically a god of combat, and I could still never beat it. I´ve heard that the only way that it is practical to try to keep them at bay is with Celerity or something. I have only played clans without this discipline, so I´ve never beaten it.

That is what I was thinking. That if I had Celerity I would lick em', but sadly, no Celerity for the lunatic.

I hate that quest so much. I usually decline this quest and do the "pimpin for romero" quest instead.

What's the "pimpin for Romero" quest?

*EDIT* Looked it up. Gunna do it! :) I know that ♥♥♥♥♥♥ tried to get with my character, a female malkavian, to which I responded with the "I can slick up my body with blood and you can thrust against my corpse" deal. I thought that was pretty funny.

And you know what, it's kind of weird. Because I watched Cry's play through, like I said before, and in his play through, he didn't sleep with Jeanette after giving her the necklace (yes, I gave in, screw Therese! lol) and he didn't get that dialog option when he talked to Romero... This may sound sick as ♥♥♥♥, but is that how these vampires are meant to "get it on"? Using blood, being that their bodies are technically no longer alive. Because I notice every time I sleep with Jeanette, I look a small amount of blood.. Weird.

In Vampire the Masquerade they don´t get it on. That´s what is so strange about Jeannette having sex with humans and vampires in the game. I think that a bunch of NPCs in Santa Monica comment on it because of how singular it was.

What are they doing then? When the screen goes black and you hear all the happy sounds..

Apparently you CAN have sex as kindred, you just don´t need to or enjoy it all that much.

From the Whitewolf (owners of the IP) wiki article on Kindred:
"Vampires change considerably after the Embrace. Physically, they are incapable of eating food, vomiting it up almost instantly, they have no need or interest in sex as the need to feed replaces all physical and emotional urges, although they can imitate the physical reactions of sex if needed."

I don´t remember who, but someone in Bloodlines (Mercurio?) comments that it is strange that Jeannette has sex with people since "you people don´t usually do that".

Edit: In conclusion, the fact that she has sex is part of her being ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ insane.

It is the game. I have played this game through something like 7-10 times, and the graveyard zombie mission is the only one I have never finished. I just don't consider it worth the bother.

And yes, vampires can have sex with humans. Many don't care about it, however.

Also spoiler about Jeanette:

You can have sex with Jeanette too, regardless of your own gender

The cemetery quest is pretty much impossible unless you try it much later in the game when your stats are higher! I made the gates stronger in the plus version of the patch because of this but it's still a difficult thing.

Is there a way to make this quest fair? I mean, maybe make it so you have tons of zombies but only one gate? Or maybe have it so the spawning hits one gate, then the other, alternating?

I have to agree that this is one of the hardest quests in the game. For clans with celerity its a whole lot more managable, but for clans without the movement bonus it pretty much is brutal.

Been a while but if I remember right, mostly what I've done when I succeded was to pretty much ignore everything that wasn't close to the gates and run back and forth betweem the two once the immediate threat at one was dealt with.

I got to the graveyard and tried to do it again this playthrough and it was impossible.
I've finished it twice before and have NO idea how I won, since both those times I was camping the upper gate.

Vampires in the WoD don't need sex but the reason it uses some blood when you do so with Jeanette(and I think Romero if you opt to sleep with him) is because vampires in WoD can do "the Blush of Life" to blend in better with humans. They suddenly don't need to consciously blink or breath, their skin looks alive again, their breath steams in cold weather. Basically it's a hiding mechanism.

It also makes things like sex possible as the Blush of Life can be used to get the "equipment" down there operating again for a short while. I've never really understood why in VtMB they make it seem like most vampires don't engage in sex. Plenty of vamps in WoD are socialites and can use seduction and powers like Presence to get a mortal into bed for an easy feed.

That's a good point. I never understood why VTMB leans towards the vampires-rarely-engage-in-sex view.
