Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines

[Solved] Vampire Masquerade Bloodlines on Windows 10 (64 Bit)? And unofficial patch.
I really love this game and have an old hardcopy DVD from Windows XP times. I tried to install it again from this copy but the installation itself did not work. What I found via google is, that this game cannot be installed anymore since Windows 8.

So my question here is, does anyone have this game running on Windows 10 (64 Bit)? Does the installation after buying it on Steam work?

I know that the installation of the unofficial patch is pretty mutch an absolute must to play this game. However, it has been a while since I last installed this patch and would like to ask if anyone can give me a step-by-step description on how to install the unofficial patch.

Thank you in advance.

Steam does not install games like cd's used to. It simply downloads the game files and creates the shortcuts you like. To install the unofficial patch just execute it and select your game folder and you're good to go

Thank you for your response. I think I will give it a try then :)
One last question... after installing the unofficial patch, can I start the game with Steam and the patch is then included or do I have to start it from the game folder and use a certain executable to start the game with the patch?

You can do both. If you want to use the patch with steam you need to right click it, go to properties , set launch options and put "-game Unofficial_Patch" in there

Thank you very much. Everything (including the patch) is working perfectly for me now :)
It is so awesome to be able to play this old classic game again.

VTMB unofficial patch on Windows 10. I succesfully installed patch 9.8 to the steamapps folder, but when I start the game this message pops up : "Failed to load the launcher DLL". Does anyone have any clues?

No, sorry. I downloaded the game and then installed the patch. Afterwards I added "-game Unofficial_Patch" to the launch option in my steam library and everything worked.

Maybe you could delete and then reinstall the game fresh and describe step by step what you are doing during the installation.

Well thank you very much, I didn't know it was in the Steam library you insert the command. Just did and now it launches, but this time no visuals. Black screen. Completely. Sound working, no picture.

I had this black screen (sound but no picture) only when I started the game the first time without the patch. But it still worked, because the main menu of the game suddenly became visible (only everything before was black)... Can you click through to the main menu of the game? Maybe if you can change the game's resolution to better match your monitor's resolution this might be solved.

Oh, and another question... Which parts of the patch did you install (there are several parts you can choose do install). Do you use some additional programm to improve the video quality of this game?

I googled the issue and managed to start the game in windowed mode, with visuals. But then it crashed when you clicked New Game hehe. I patched it with the bonus content. The extras, not the whole (biggest) patch, but "the middle one". And yes, I have a Nvidia Graphic Card program that does stuff... don't know much about it, though. I have more or less given up, I'm afraid.

Dont use the additional program for the graphic card. Only install the game and then the unofficial patch without any other programs.
That should do the trick.

have you made sure that you installed the patch on the right location? People usually install the patch onto the wrong drive

I checked and this program shouldn't interfere with VTMB. And the patch is installed into steamapps VTMB folder.

K just asking because it's always defaulting that folder with the little exception that it assumes steam is installed on the C drive which is not the case for everyone

Geez you got something there brother... My STEAM is installed on E: ??
Now I am doing it all over from scratch, with the Nvidia Graphics uninstalled, and I'll make sure to double-check this particular C:/E: thing. Thanks! Who knows, maybe it'll work hehe...

HEUREKA it works with no faults! sound & vision is excellent! Everything is cool and I can now play my most loved VTMB for god-knows-which-time. But it's been ages! Looking forward to some hours enthralled in front of a screen...

You have my undivided thanks and gratitude dude!!! Thanks from a technics-ignorant :o)
