Why can't we choose which tires are sent back in free practice?
Everytime it rains in FP, the game sends back unused softs no matter what because the only used tires are the rains used in the session, it's annoying af and you can start qualifying in dry conditions with 3 mediums and 2 softs which makes no sense. Just change it so we can choose them.

Yeah, it would be nice if that was possible. Obviously you wouldn't be able to choose if you did use the tyres but if you didn't use any you should be able to pick which one to return.

Surely you run any set you want in FP; stick them on, do a lap, come in and the highest usage ones will get handed in, even if it is wet.

Nope, intermediates aren't being sent back, only dry tires

Yeah, but he's saying you should just do a lap on those dry tyres. It's still nonsense you have to do that but it's the only way to choose the tyres you return.

I don't mind how it is handled. I use Hard in P1, Med in P2 and Soft in P3 once.
So i get 3 unused Softs send back. I don't care about it, since you don't need so many Softs.

Sure, do just that in the rain and triple your chances of your driver's crashing. What you said has nothing to do with the post.

But it does, it just does it outside the box by developing a strategy that isn't affected by the issue.

The "strategy" being risk crashing the car unnecesarily. Genious.

What i noticed with 23 and not sure this is totally relevant, but for some races when qualifying began a bunch of soft tyre sets which it previously showed as available would all now have the "sent back" icon, and this could be even 6 sets, so basically i only have the one set of soft for the entirety of qualifying session(s) , i look at the ai and some of them are on new tires in Q2, which clearly shows something is of, not sure if this has been changed for 24

If this is consistent with IRL then fine AS LONG as the ai conform to the same restrictions, but do they?

Risk vs Reward

Neither strategy is right or wrong, they are just different. Everyone weighs the risk vs the reward and builds a strategy around it.

You are conservative, they are aggressive.

At the end of the day, if it works, it can't be wrong; and I assure you, their strategy does indeed work. I was very surprised at how well it does work.

Do you increase crash risk, sure. But by how much? I didn't experience any difference in results when I tried it out. I don't think it's the strategy for me, but I'm not going to knock it either.

You are, once again, missing the point. The risk IS completely unnecessary because we should be allowed to choose which tires to send back. The "fix" that you propose should be 100% unnecessary, making it a 100% unnecessary risk.
