In motorsport manager there's several different classes running at the same time and if you get bored of one, you just go to another category or use mods. F1 manager has none of that, once you finish champion with a williams or another team from the back of the grid it has nothing more to offer.
The finance side of managing the team is also super easy. Even the worst teams start with budgets on the 70 millions dollars so you have to be trying for your team to go on the red.
In the car development you only have aero packages. You can't develop anything that isn't related to downforce and drag. No better suspention, brakes or engine.
The selection of drivers is also super limited, only the grids of F1, F2 and F3, and there's no charm to the drivers. No silly "this driver just released a racing themed cookbook so he gets +5 marketing", it's all dead serious and dry.
It's fine for what it is, a F1 managing game, but it has nothing on the competition.
To be fair, neither can F1 teams IRL. Engine development is locked, brakes are fairly standard (I believe) and suspension is either pull or push rod and you can't just switch the two at will.
But that should be changeable with regulation changes in between the seasons. That fact it is not an option makes the game very repetitive too quickly.
I think you are able to enjoy both.
Loved mm, and I thought there was never a reason to try F1 manager. I picked up F1 manager 23 for ps5 and loved it.
There's a few more bugs over mm but it feels a lot more like "racing". Super excited for the create your own team features in F1 manager 24.
The only big downside I found with f1 manager is 2-3 races are going to take up a weekend.
Where mm I could do an entire season.
I don't mind the involvement and extra time because training/scouting/qualifying feels more involved and i get a bigger attachment to the team. the features also seem to open up a tad more replayability.
MM i've restarted several times and the 1st couple seasons all get sort of "cookie" cutter.
I've restarted the 1st 4 races about 5 times now with F1 23 and I've had drastically different outcomes based of my own and AI decisions. (I've used the same team each restart).
I haven't tried it yet, but f1 manager 23 also allowed you to play out the races or special situations without doing a "campaign".
I don't watch F1 races but i've seen all the seasons of the drive to survive on netflix, games has been perfect and I feel like the driver "comps" have been pretty accurate.
Oh... there F2 and F3 too. Supposedly if you suck it up in 23 you get "demoted". Not sure how 24 going to handle that as I think you are more of an owner in 24 where 23 you are the "principal"
***** " I would like something to play on my downtime from another game ****"
F1 manager might not be right for you as it is a much "longer" if you're going to do everything. You do have the option to simulate qualifying etc.
I think there are 5 different in game speeds, practice I tend to zip through. qualifying and races personally I tend to play out at regular speed.
