Ingame arena thing

Every once in a while a random deathmatch will occur between all nation commanders. The winner get a champions helm. I've had games were this has shown up and games were it hasn't what are prerequisites of this event?

No prerequisites. It's totally random. Usually it's not worth sending a high value commander in there.

i sent my best commander to this arena he was a black knight all decked out in full magic plate and magic items in every slot mass exp badges prophet of Ulm and was doing great till i came up against a allian squid dude with a trident he used some psionic mind attack that negated all my armor and defences and killed me before i could even move.i was so upset i had to walk away from the game for a couple days.

yeah they use mind blast. all about raw MR their. but thats why edirr said what he said. you generally cant kit out a commander to beat what every nation will send. so you throw dice that someone beats the 1 nation that will beat you up vs all those gems of equipment. or just send someone whos ok but its not a big deal if they die.

It's also worth noting that even if you can field Tartarians, Demon Lords or other such supercombatants and you are confident that the opponent doesn't have custom counters, you probably don't even want them to win the arena because some of the items you can win are quite frankly rather mediocre and they are cursed so you can't get rid of them and replace them with a better one.

Only reason i really do arena basicly is to kill enemy commanders imo but your guy gets loads of exp so hall of fame entry might make ur guy resurrecteble.

I noticed an AI aboleth (without air breathing) doing well in the arena. As it has only misc item slots, i suspect the items it won went into storage to be used by other commanders.
Maybe worth trying one day, for laughs and cheap thug gear.

yeah Aboleths have mind blast and lvl 3 Astral magic which is strong in my opinion.

i just came across the arena thing, i sent one of my hangradots to compete. he killed the berytian champion (which was cool because i was currently wiping them out anyway) then got to last battle of arena only to find some kind of hydra thing with lots of health! LOL enemy dominions cheating by sending summoned creatures! :P the hydra also killed a thing with mind control and seemed to have a lot more battles....were as my guy had 1 battle and then hydra the hydra thing had tons of battles and murdered everyhting.

my guy started by summoning lots of skeletons and undead, got a few hits on the serpant thing with them but it was so badass powerfull it just carved through everything and wiped my hangradot out in 1 hit :P

If you want a more worthwhile arena consider trying out the better arena mod in the mod catalog.

Also with regards to the mind lord that's kind of weird that it showed up without an item letting it go on land but I'm pretty sure I've seen the same thing. It more weird since if you are playing EA R'lyeh you can't send mind lords to it unless they have an item granting them the ability to go on land (haven't actually verified the second part yet, but I'm assuming with such an item you could send them to the arena).

Some factions can recruit Hydra, don't have to summon them. Also spells like N2 Transformation can turn the caster into one as well. I had decent fun having a sacred one with ring of regeneration and a N9 bless.

Oh man, I LOVE playing Pangaea and turning all my expensive Pans into free-upkeep monsters. Never got a hydra, but pulling in just a few manticores, amphiteres, ice/fire drakes and griffons makes the occasional ♥♥♥♥♥♥ giant spider or monster boar worth it.

I had one twice in a single game as Ur. Still a grotesque is better I think.
