I must stop you there... You say 'Gauntlet is a console game'. What makes a game a console game and what makes a game a PC game. All games should be enjoyed by all gamers on which ever system their using.

i agree all games should be on all systems. but gauntlet was a ps2 game and even before that for other things. thay is why i say it should be on the ps3 if not other consoles.

I guess its easyer to code for PC and Xbox than it is for the PS3, I don't really know maybe one of the devs could anwser.

But the first gauntlet was in the arcade back in the 1980's then released on the 8-bit home computers like the C-64, spectrum etc.

maybe... i don't know about that. i also heard this version was made by the people who made magicka. so maybe that why it pc only. also the arcade i thought so. but the pc i didn't know about. the only one i ever played was the ps2 one i think.

the originals were made for the arcade room and pc users. then midway made gauntlet legends for n64 and playstation. then they made gauntlet dark legacy for ps2, xbox and gamecube, then the same for seven sorrows.

this company is arrowhead, who previously only released magicka, a pc game.
it's a double whammy, not only are they pc-focused devs, but they're also going back to it's pc roots.

really pc users? and i love the ps2 one. i heard it was made those guys. i have magicka. maybe it is going back to it roots. but i say consoles because of co-op. local co-op.

but if you think about it, the arcade room is where local co-op originated before they started making consoles...

an arcade cabinet containing a game to play is just a computer behind a cabinet painted with concept art that has MAME installed on it with specific codes for specific games.
so technically, when we were playing in the arcade room all those years we were playing local co-op on the computer.

it is true that consoles gave us our first local coop at home, so i understand why you feel this way.
honestly it wouldn't suprise me that much if after they've released everything to port it over to the xbox arcade or psn because they've already implemented gamepad controls.
at the same time, they don't have anything on consoles yet to date, so i don't expect it either.

I remember my mother buying gauntlet on the spectrum +2 128k back in the 80's. And gauntlet has gone back to its root with this version, but made it better.

Im tired of all these 3D games sometimes and these top down view games bring a fresh change to gaming and I think thats why I love this game and magicka.

FORCED is another good local/online co-op top-down hack and slash in the spirit of Gauntlet.
My brother and I are currently enjoying that one. It has a skill tree for each of the four characters so you can work together in the best way possible.

One of the lesser rated ones is R.A.W., but it has a cult following.

Van Helsing Franchise looks amazing, I'm gonna check that out too as well as Titan Quest which is more of an open world RPG top-down hack and slash, but what really appeals to me about that one is the replay value. each new game plus with a new difficulty level gives you new bosses and enemies to fight. so it's fresh every time.

All on steam.

Well those are Action RPG's, like Diablo 1-3, Torchlight 1&2, Titan's Quest and countless older ones... It's not the same, Gauntlet is a pure action top-down game.

yes the others are rpg's with more depth to the gameplay, but they are still hack and slash dungeon crawlers at their core. the rpg sense of them usually come from a skill tree or customizing your character. otherwise the gameplay is almost the same as a regular dungeon crawler hack and slash like gauntlet. i was just making a comparison based off of my personal interest in those games due solely to my initial interest in gauntlet as a kid. i wasn't saying they were all identical. I beleive I even stated in my description they were RPG's...
if you want to get technical a role-playing game is when you assume the role of a specific character to play a certain game style. gauntlet is also that, as you assume one out of four roles that each have different abilities. but i really don't see the sense in arguing? i was just genuinely recommending games similar in concept that they might enjoy to take a look at.

LMAO!!! It is 'rare' to find local co-op games on a console these days, that was so 90s/early 2000.

You know what sucks? My little bro's X360 drive broke and pretty much abandoned it since he has his PS4. All of his old games are just gathering dust/getting lost in the process. Regardless, I'm just glad I can still play my old games on PC.

dark legacy wasn't, seven sorrows was. but you're right, it was for the ps2 and xbox as well. i tend to omit seven sorrows when mentioning the series lol. dark legacy was the epitome of the franchise in my opinion.
