Gauntlet vs Hammerwatch
From the gameplay video both of these games look pretty similar. Is there anything that makes Guantlet better than Hammerwatch?

Gauntlet is superior to Hammerwatch in my opinion.
They're both good games but this one just feels better.

PS: Haven't played Hammerwatch _a lot_ so I might not have reached the part of the game which people find awesome so listen to people who've experienced both games equally.

No. Hammerwatch is the real successor of the original Gauntlet. It is cheaper and has a lot more content. Hammerwatch is a masterpiece if you like this kind of game.

The user scores are the same.

I played Hammerwatch for a very short period. I stopped because the combat didn't feel rewarding. And in a game where it's mostly all about the combat... that's a killer. Gauntlet combat is much more entertaining for me, so I have to put my vote into the Gauntlet hat.

I think too that Hammerwatch really feels like true evolution of Gauntlet : levels are labyrinth with lot of hidden wall to break, there is warp zone like true old Gauntlet... There are even some bonus stage where you're in the true old Gauntlet levels.
Leveling is a lot more interesting, unlocking some magics to use or some perks that truly boost your hero...
The different heroes are way more balanced too than this Gauntlet (what's this slow Warrior that make same amount of damage than the Elf who shoot arrows lot more quickly, seriously...)
And now, with the last update (free new campaign and 2 heroes), Hammerwatch give you a really lot more content than this Gauntlet...
Even the music feel more Gauntlet !

This Gauntlet could be great, but the lazyness of it's level design and the lack of reflection on the gameplay like balance of the heroes kills the game, for me at least...
It didn't even compete against the fantastic Dark Legacy.... It's remind me more the terrible Seven Sorrows, sadly...

I feel like the gameplay of Hammerwatch is too bland for me to enjoy.

As you can probably tell:

Hammerwatch has tons more content and more of an RPG feel to it.
Gauntlet "feels" better to play and is prettier to boot.

Basically... play both!

I've made assets and coded for Hammerwatch, in game I've got 38 hours but I've spent a solid 50+ just making assets for it. It's a nice game but I'm also a huge Gauntlet Legends fanboy. Which do I like more? Gauntlet. The upgrading system is better.

Gauntlet 7/10
Hammerwatch 6/10

I played both games. And I have to agree what most say. Hammerwatch is more RPG and more content and Gauntlet has a way better combat system in my opinion. I hope Gauntlet gets more updates and content later on :D

That right there. Gauntlet is pure filth, the only thing "procedurally generated" about it was the lies they told to sell it to us. It plays like a cheesy tablet game for petes sake!

Ultimately the primary weakness of Gauntlet and Hammerwatch are the same. While they are fun games to play, they are horrible games to make work. I played Hammerwatch around release and it was a giant ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I really wanted to like Hammerwatch, and I had a bit of fun with it, but the execution was severely lacking. It really has a lot of the same problems that Gauntlet has now plus a few different ones.

- You always had to start from level 1 and most groups fell apart by the first boss. If you weren't in a serious pre-made group you were never going to get very far. The first few levels were extremely easy and boring once you knew what you were doing.

- The matchmaking system was worse than Gauntlets. Simply getting people into the game and having it work was a chore. It had lobbies, but that didn't really help. When you combined the technical problems of joining and resuming games with the lengthy play time requirements it seriously hurt the game.

While I am severely disappointed with Gauntlet's horrible UI, options, performance, online capability, etc... The action itself is still fun and I can jump into a multiplayer game without too much trouble since it doesn't really matter which levels you play. While Hammerwatch was fun to play too I got extremely sick of playing the first few levels only to have people randomly disconnect or leave before we got to the good parts.

I already own Hammerwatch, I only played solo for a bit but the combat did seem a little too basic but I wasn't sure if it got better later on with more attacks and I haven't tried the multiplayer yet. I think I'll do that and maybe wait for Gauntlet to go on sale or get additional content update before purchasing.

Thanks for the help!

Uhhh... might want to actually buy the game before talking about it.

Hammerwatch is great if you'll have the same group of people around each time for an entire campaign. The way character growth works, you'll want each person to be around for all the gold accumulation. It also has some pretty great workshop campaigns. In Gauntlet, it's pretty much pick whichever chapter you want whenever, as there's no character growth specific to a single run.

Gauntlet is also substantially harder to pick up control- and difficulty-wise, so if you've got friends that don't play many games, Hammerwatch may be the better call.

Lastly, Hammerwatch let's you have duplicates of a class. So you don't have to worry about forcing people to play certain characters when you have four.
