No it's not. It's more like an arcade version of Diablo 3. There's no persistance stats/levels like in past Gauntlet games. The only thing that carries over between levels is 'relics' which is what potions have been reduced to as well. They literally just slapped the title "Gauntlet" on this when its not all that similiar to the older titles in the series.

I am thankful for the direction this Gauntlet took, its fun and silly but not too silly. The later gauntlets started getting a little on the childish side. I am enjoying the return of a more darker gauntlet that is more in line with the old school classics.
While I would have preferred something along the line of gauntlet legends, this is fairly enjoyable. I do have some gripes, but those can go to another thread.

Actually this game is very much like the 1985 gauntlet, not the 90's gauntlet games you are quoting. So them "slapping" the title onto this game is because this is exactly what the 1985 gauntlet was.

Yeah but the OP was asking about the n64 and dreamcast Gauntlet. Sorry.

This is not at all like Gauntlet Legends. I was really hoping it would be but it's very different. Still it's worth $20 IMHO
