Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows, Gauntlet 1985, or Gauntlet Legends/Dark Legacy
First, I have played ALL the gauntlet games, including the original.

I think the BEST gauntlet games were definitely Gauntlet Legends/Dark Legacy. They took the greatness of the original gauntlet, and expanded and drastically improved the game w/o changing core gameplay. The progression was wonderful, the hidden classes were awesome, I have nothing but good things to say about these two games.

Then came the travesty that was Seven Sorrows. It was an awful gauntlet game and took everything that the "legends" series did to improve the game, stripped those features, and created an incredibly simple and downright awful hack and slash game, that most definitely lost the gauntlet feel.

Now this game looks like it may be somewhere in between the classic 1985 version and the "legends" series that evolved the game.

I know some people have been able to demo this game, whether through PAX or other means, as such I am wondering if you would be able to shed some light on the direction this game is taking the gauntlet series.

Any of them but Seven Sorrows were good. Legends and DL just took the concept further and expanded on every aspect I felt but the classics are just as good. I don't think this needs to copy the new ones to be on their level though but I'd LOVE if we had the extra characters like in L/DL.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the classics very much. I just felt that Legends and DL took everything great about the classics and improved it. Then Seven Sorrows came along and took a **** all over the gauntlet series.

While I continue to look, I've never been able to find any Gauntlet games after my copy of Gauntlet IV for Mega Drive.

As such, I can't talk on the quality of those games. I am looking forward to this one though.

Legends/Dark Legacy takes the cake. Sevan Sorrows... ew.

I like the basic version and the expanded stuff with L/DL. I wish that this went further with the idea and gave us more characters that fall in the same class scheme. Like how in DL you had the jackal and the unicorn or ogre and all the others but they were just different looks for the same class. That would've been awesome for this.

I just like choices so I felt that was what the newer games delivered on incredibly well. We'll see just how this turns out on release too. I have hopes.

yeah i think more people wanted a remake of legends/dark legacy
because they really seemed like the 'improved' game

Dark legacy was always my favorite, but the classics were amazing as well. Its nice to see the series return, and it looks like this team at least has a grasp on what made the games so much fun. Having a hard time avoiding super amounts of hype XD

You uhm... ever played Get Medieval, guys? It's a 97th game and it at least looks better, than original. Just to mention...

im calling this game .. Gauntlet: by the torchlight of diablo
and since torchlight II is the same price, i'd go with torchlight II over this if you had to choose only 1

The games are nothing alike.

You're basically saying if you have to decide between Army of Two and CoD or BF go with CoD because it's like BF. Despite them being entirely different games.
