Necromancer
Long story short, I started playing again since the re-work and I'm finding it p fun, with the same exception I had before: the Necromancer. Try as I might, I can't work out a way to play her. I usually default to shadow stepping into summoning and trying to do some damage from behind my skellies. This works in varying degrees depending o my team, but soloing (which I tend to do quite often in Guntlet) seems a touch too tricky. Having no idea how to ue the "dominate" staff probably doesn't help either.

tl;dr - how do I into necromancer?

My personal strategy for Lilith was to use the Eternal Night scepter(the one that summons spirits) and play her a little like Questor. The strong attack gives her a nice, powerful ranged attack with a little bit of splash and, I believe, a little slowing. If they get too close, get out of there with the ghost walk just as you would use Questor's dodge. For bigger threats, like the charging orcs, unleash your spirits, which do far more damage than Questor's bombs once fully charged. If you can get control of a chokepoint, sometimes Lilith's normal attack will be able to pin a whole group down indefinitely. The attack stuns, so if you can create a dam of stunned enemies, you can hold back the rest and the chokepoint will close off the opening around the side of the attack that enemies tend to use to flank you. Either way that normal attack is Lilith's weakest point, so it should be used pretty sparingly.

Good luck with her!

I find her lack of mobility when using normal or heavy attacks to be her biggest drawback. Recently I've tried to play her like The Phantom Poncho from Secret Ponchos, with a dash and a shot and a dash and a shot....almost reminds me of playing Gunz....but I'm not sure it's working.

Ah well, I'm sure I'll work out a strat eventually, and I can always go back to Questor, he's been good since II for me.

EDIT: I just worked out "Y" on a housebox is an attack button. Suddenly, sense!

She is extremely effective and powerful with all her weapons if you use them right. You can still dominate a room with 4 towers solo with little effort if you spawn your minions right. I am becoming a huge fan of dominate though because you can use the enemies against themselves. Esp. true if you dominate a large orc or fire demon or summoner and watch them kill towers for you. The foot solders are not as fast to spawn anymore but the archer ones are and if you position them between towers and hammer to protect them from taking damage you are unstoppable.

A tip: Ghostwalk allows you to cancel out of attacking and summoning early. Attacks and summons are still executed but you won't be left vulnerable to counter-attacks. Mastering this technique can up your survivability immensely.

How does Dominate work:riddle: I've not been able to target anything. Am I supposed to run into things, or am I missing something:riddle:

phase through enemies or kill them to build your charge bar. then phase into a crowd and use dominate. you'll see all the enemies around you turn purple. That means they are turned and fight for you. While charmed you cannot kill them with the hammer so smash away. Then dismiss your turned minions with the light attack. Teammates can kill your dominated so it can be a mixed bag without experienced players. The more charge the bigger the crowd you charm and the longer they stay charmed. I like getting a charge built then phase into a huge crowd, charm them and release your ring of mirrors relic and then hammer outward while charming more as needed. If the enemy crowd is huge you can dominate phase dominate over and over making the entire screen of enemies fight for you. Other characters can do this to a lesser extent with the lute relic. You can double dominate if you use the lute and dominate.

When possible dominate larger opponents. Big orcs when dominated can take down spider queens and towers fast. As well when they are dominated they can mow through herds of smaller enemies like grunts and skeletons

Adding to Solinarius' comment if you phase into a danger area you can cut the phase short by initiating a summon or dominate at any time and you'll stop phasing

Good advice here. Lilith is the strongest character in the game now with the mastery nerf bumping Merlin off his perch. The default set is weakest one I think. Dominate is ridiculously strong and the archers are outstanding. I like the ghost necro because because of the super long range aoe attack.

I tried the ghosts but I cannot get used to not having the hammer. Just not my thing. Squishing hordes of enemeis in a single hit is hard to beat. Esp if you're powering through endless levels dominate wins hands down IMHO

Works best in a group without a Valk running the Final Justice set. You almost never ghost walk, death from afar! I almost always have the most kills this way. Biggest weakness is against a lot of strong mobs at once.

Never Ever use the ghost weapon, it roots you and removes one of the best abilities of the game, the long range hammer.
A common tactic that works well (now that phase works much like the wizards fireserpents) is to use your hammer and then shift to that same spot untill your soul power reaches 5+, focus on large groups.

So here's a few general tips, that aren't widely known. Number one your soul bar fills up twice. the first time up to five you'll get a base level summon/dominate, if you fill u p the soul bar so that it's boldly blue, you'll get upgraded minions, or a longer duration on your dominate, or just higher damaging shades.

The next general tip on her, is that she never needs to be rooted while you're playing her. Her primary and secondary attacks on all weapons, can be ghost walked out of. So for example if you aim your hammer, and then ghost walk in the same direction, you'll end up past where the hammer falls just about the same time it makes contact with the ground behind you.

Necro benefits the most from, quickly aiming, firing off a shot, and moving to a new location and repeating. This strategy in tandem, with your melee summons makes her a powerhouse. As wth large groups of enemies, you can very quickly amass souls and drop groups of minions all around the room to help you build even more souls. Once you get her attack pattern down and if you can play her fast enough your hammer is constantly dropping and you're always on the move. With her archers obviously you don't want to drop them in the middle of a group, but back a bit so they can fire off enough shots to aquire you more souls.

I find that using the archer variant quickly and effectively is mostly about baby sitting them while you hunt for more souls. They do solid damage, which means that if you play with them right, you can easily sustain 15-20 fire arrow archers on the map during huge fights. If you manage to get that many out, this fight is pretty much over.

Domination staff works as an AOE around her, So you're best time to use it, is while ghost walking into the middle of a crowd. Best thing about dominated mobs, is unlike with the lute, they won't take friendly fire, so you don't have to worry about accidentally hammering them.

For relic selection, a popular one is the lute, but I personally think it's just too much of the same to be interesting to me. If you're rolling with the shade staff try the fire boots or tornado, do some damageto the enemies, so that you can one shot 2-3 at a time, and then pump out a ton of shades.

if you're using a hammer, the speed boots are insanely fun.

Well I hope some of this helped you, just keep practicing.

My fav attack strat with her is

Melee skellies
Ring of Mirrors
Standard other.

Drop the ring of mirrors
Drop melee
Hammer drop and ghost walk right away, repeat.

I tried her dominate and long range shooting and archers. I didn't like giving up the hammer and while the ghosts were kinda cool, I felt I got more from my melee skellies with how I played her.

Having said that, I think her long range pulse is real handy in a couple rooms and certainly facing Morak as she can take out anything from anywhere.
