Gauntlet 1985 Did you play it?
I see several threads complaining that this new release looks nothing like Gauntlet Dark Legacy which is a game I have never played nor heard of until reading these forums.

I did however play the original Arcade Gauntlet made in 1985 which this remake was inspired by: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mMJio2MO6w

I looked up a video of Dark Legacy and it looks nothing at all like Gauntlet, I am really looking forward to this new version because it looks inspired by the original.

How many of you have played the original 1985 version?

You can play Gauntlet 1 and 2 on MAME

MAME is for Amiga games. It's not the same. My first real game platform love was the Commodore 64. :)

I've downloaded and used MAME. It's an arcade emulator. Try actually reading the Wikipedia link that I posted...

It was some years ago since I used MAME myself and then it could not emulate C64 games. If it can now I'll take your word for it.

Edit: My bad on MAME and Amiga. Thought it emulated Amiga games too but it didn't when I used it at least.

You seem to have a hard time understanding what an arcade game is...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arcade_game

The commodore 64 was a home-based, 8 bit microcomputer, not at all related to custom designed arcade games. Popular arcade games were ported to home microcomputers. If you want to emulate other machines like Amiga, Commodore, Amstrad, Spectrum etc. you need to download dedicated emulators for those machines.

No. I know what a arcade platform game is.
We're talking around each other. If I had put C64 in the third sentence of my post that you first quoted I guess we wouldn't have this confusion. I was a bit lazy there.

Yeah. And the creativity of the game developers was amazing. For example I remember playing a real time strategy game that was about a river crossing battle during the US civil war. Those guys making the games could really squeeze out every last drop of resources from the machine. :)

Too much trouble trying to get 4 joysticks to work with MAME. I just want to play. I don't want to spend all my time trying to get joysticks to work. :-)

I played the original in the arcade (I was eight when it came out) and was thinking this spring how cool it would be to have a game like Gauntlet on the PC. Definitely buying this game when it comes out!

I used to love the original arcade game during my college days. I could play it non-stop on one quarter. Anybody remember the contest?

Which is why everyone is complaining. There are enough rpg games out there.

Give us a arcade game!!!

I am complaining for a different reason. I am worried that remaking Gauntlet without some of fun gameplay that has keep Dark Legacy alive for far longer will not do well with respect to how long people wants to play.
the new gauntlet is based off the 1985 classic.omfg
