Character Progression?
I played the original Gauntlet so many years ago I'd rather not start calculating it, however in a little more recent but still several years ago (like 15+) there was an updated arcade version of Gauntlet I had played. Fairly certain it was Gauntlet Legends.

Basically it was a coin-op (of course) and you could remember your password/character name and return to the game and continue with said character, working your way up the high score board, gaining new gear/aesthetics/abilities. It was amazing. I would own that coin-op if I could. If that game is somewhere to be had I would love it.

From what I understand this iteration of Gauntlet harkens more to the original. It is not anything like the arcade reboot that I fondly remember. And there is no sight nor sound of the version that was penned for release a few years ago on Nintendo DS (seriously, it was going to be a thing!).

So, as the title suggests I am interested in character progression. I don't expect it to be like Diablo 3, but is there any meat to the game to keep coming back for more other than hopeful multiplayer? Anything to differentiate yourself from other players? Achievements in game? At $5 at the moment it's almost an assured buy, but I want to know the game I am getting and am hoping for character progression of some type.

Thanks for all responses!

Well, for starters, there are nice players to play with. The art, at least for me, it's quite impressive and has a "welcoming" feel to it. The things to upgrade are pretty limited and Endless mode may become repetitive but it's somehow rewarding to help people get through levels, when you've maxed out everything or even when you're completing stuff. Some people play for kills and gold while others just hang out.

These are just based on experience, of course. Everyone has his or her point-of-view.
Er ... this game is now an Arcade game so ... so there is no character progression like you would expect from other RPG/dungeon-crawler games. You do start bare bones (kind of) and need to collect gold to buy extra weapons and relics but be minded that this just change your game playstyle, not what you could call a "progression". As for, "should I buy it?" If you want a game with tons of things to explore ... er ... then pass. Now, if you like the idea of passing tought areas using just your skills/strategies while collaborating with friends... then buy it! This game is A LOT of fun! I play it almost every day since 2016 and still not tired of it. Good luck!
