I got my game to work by updating direct X and installing
Microsoft c++ redistubite 2008 x64 9.0
Microsoft c++ 2005 Redistribute
Microsoft c++ 2010x86 Redistribute 10.04
also update windows

that fixed the issue for me, if that doesn't work for either of you message, glad the game wasn't a waste of money.

Also don't blame steam it's not their fault this game isn't made to be ran on 64 bit OS, you could blame them though if they refuse to refund you, once you tired all of the fixes to try to get it working

I would refund the game if it's not working since steam now does that. If you had the game for a while sorry. If it makes you feel better bioshock 2 doesn't work on my pc and I own the game. A certain DRM free web site might sell a copy that works for you. I know GOG works hard to make games compatible with all windows OS. I don't know about the other guys.

After a loooong time I found what worked for me:

1. Install all the C++ described above for x64 and x86
2. Install direct x newest version
3. Reboot
4. Start the game

Repeat the steps 1.-4. in random fashion until it works :D

Don't feel too dumped on mate, I'm back in here going through it all again, after 2,145 of unadulterated joy playing the best WW2 game ever. HOI3 has it all, and if it doesn't have it you don't need it.

I went through the mill trying to get it going 2 yrs. or so ago, made harder because of computer illiteracy, but I dug in my heels and got there. Ran for 2.4k hrs. just fine and recently started having trouble with stuttering and freezing up.

I can tell you that I had to rectify the same file issue and it was not the newest DX version that cured it, it was the older one from around 2010 you'll see mentioned in "problem" threads that did it.

Best of luck friend, take a break and keep going back to it and eventually you'll nail it and I promise you the experience is worth it. And my renewed effort to fix my own is my testament to that, HOI3 is a marvel in my book.

Yes that Direct X package from around 2010, it's linked in various threads, cures that specific file problem, if it doesn't something likely wasn't done properly. Once you put it over to the game files don't forget to go in there and click the setup file.

I also recommend the C++ runtime packages that also are linked in various threads, anything 2008 through 2015 might be useful and can't hurt to have.

Should you have issues after that or in the future, don't hesitate to do a clean install and remember that it is critical to install in this order --
HOI3 base game
Semper Fi
Motherland
SF Gotterdammerung
TFH

If that order is not followed the game will either not function or only partially with no TFH.
Throws a tbb.dll error when out of order. Straight to reinstall is my new philosophy, and no internet file spelunking until reinstall fails to resolve it.
