Hearts of Iron III

Supply System is Broken
It can take forever to get supplies even if you have the best infrastructure and your units are doing nothing.

Second your units consume fuel when they aren't doing anything. Why do machines use fuel if they are parked? Last time I checked my car didn't use any fuel after I parked it and turned it off.

This game feels like it was never ever properly fixed. I hope Hearts of Iron 4 is much better.

Think of it as your troops brewing tea with petrol cookers?

I agree the supply system is very frustrating sometimes. ..and yes I do know how it works (or does not work).

The biggest flaw is that units draw the supply from the capital (or port if not land connected to the capital) and then the sloppy supply truckers drop half of the stuff on the road. This is not realistic. In reality you would have different level supply storages on the way and the units had their own storages. A regiment would draw from the divisional storage and division from corps and so on...not from the capital. Then there were general storages not releted to certain units.

If the supply system had been done this way (that units house their own storage and deliver it downwards) it would encourage more to keep proper army structure and not having units getting too far from parent units...after all it's the supply which gets cut much earlier than radio contact

Some units use fuel even they are doing nothin like you said (like engineers!). Supply (those wood boxes) is reasonable to be consumed in lesser extent all the time because everybody needs food and some other odd stuff daily.

When your divisons are stationed in a province for a long time they are probably patrolling, setting up, and in the cold, probably using fuel to cook as said above, or to burn corpses. Or anything. Its important to use your airforce to supply isolated units

I decided to play a game as the USA. I haven't got into war yet. I haven't built up my military yet. My units are running out of supplies with the best infrastucture.

It's bad. The whole system should have been revamped. Honestly once they realized it wasn't working they should have just removed it from the game.

Do you actually have any supplies to ship to your men? The number of supplies will be at the top of the screen, you have to produce or buy them in. Also, have you moved your armies? If you put 20 divisions in one province, they will run out of supply no matter how high the infrastructure is. Thirdy, are they running out of supplies on the mainland or islands? If its the islands, do you have enough convoys not being used for other things? Is the port at the island and the mainland large enough to cope with the load?

If its not any of those, take a screenshot of the troops out of supply in both supply map mode and infrastructure map mode and we may be able to help. It's not "broken" just because you don't understand it.

I'm playing the US, so I have 99999 of everything. I'm running out of supplies on the mainland.

It's definitely broken and poorly implemented. The fact that it all comes from capital is a terrible design decision. They should have designed it so they came from anywhere that has industry.

My only hope is that they don't make these same mistakes with Hearts of Iron 4.

Seriously... link those screenshots and other information and we may be able to help. Otherwise, sure, its broken for -you-. Many other people, who happen to understand the system, it works fine for. I just finished a game as the US, only supply problems were caused by the supply route being interrupted. But sure. Its the game. It can't possibly be that on your first campaign you've not mastered everything instantly...

Running out of resources when you have 99999 of everything and great infrastructure is broken.

It should never happen if I don't move my troops and I'm just waiting for time to pass so my neutrality drops low enough so I can acutally do something.

I gave up on this game. It's easily the worst Paradox game in terms of polish that I've played.

Yes, its a matter of getting them where they need to be. Show us a picture and we'll help. Or just give up, and waste however much you paid for the game. Your choice.

This is normal. I was soldier of the german army. Practically most usual equipment is often in use (f.e. training).. or at least.. soldiers do a lot of technical service (including cleansing) to ensure that all equipment will work if needed. This cost fuel and spare parts.

And think about forces at the front. The don't just drive to their trenches and sit there till the end of the war. They need to transport food, supplies, spare parts, troops.. soldiers become ill.. they need to heat or cool their base, cook food, warm up water.. they need to change their positions sometimes.. and don't forget recon-missions to know what happens around their position. This all cost a lot of fuel and supplies.

And in 2000's.. soldiers burn most fuel in their bases to play wargames on game consoles.. xD

There are many MANY factors regarding "supplies". We could use some more details to your thread like, what country are you playing as. Where exactly are these troops who are using supplies? What types of troops are they? What's your economic status? etc. etc.

I'm not even exactly sure if you are asking a question or simply venting. The game is difficult to understand but I recommend this website...

http://www.hoi3wiki.com/Supply

...including the entire catelog of categories, not just supply, and this video...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qu0lMGzA4m4

...which will hopefully help a little bit.

Yes, I believe some of the game is corrupt and doesn't always work right but not always.

If you can't figure it out I'm sure there's plenty of players who would be happy to join you in your game to help you figure out what's going on. Hope that helps a bit.

You seriously need to give more details or you are just going to be seen as a troll.

What version are you currently using? Vanilla? Semper Fi? For the Motherland? Their Finest Hour? This DOES matter.
