HOI3 appears broken for Windows 10?

Tried to play both the STEAM and GOG download of the game and it doesn't launch - just get sundial and music playing but no loading. Obviously verified files/etc.. but a no go. If anyone knows any tricks to get it working it would be much appreciated... thanks!

Update - after researching a few hours found that if you edit properties on hoi3_tfh file and disable fullscreen optimizations, the game will start up normally without just the clock and music playing in background. Hooray! hope this helps a few peeps.

Also when I launch game the script errors give me a broken link to gamersgate...so I can only start the 4 scenarios

Hope your solution is working out, my suggestion was going to be maybe update video drivers.

It runs as it should for me on Win10 but I had to use a bit of voodoo to get it to launch but I don't really remember what I did now.

If you take the game file out of steam and place it either on the desktop or right into the C drive it should work, that is what I did.

yeah I run it off of a windows shortcut also. yay old games.

Is this the problem, you´re encountering?
The game started, but then crashed as soon as the main menu would pop up?

Compatibility mode and turning off fullscreen optimization did nothing for me too.

The fix for me was: Large address awareness!

Just download the laa_2_0_4.zip here, unzip it and patch the hoi_tfh.exe with it.
(You can find it in your Hoi3 directory: SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Hearts of Iron 3)

After that (at least for me) Hoi3 works absolutely fine in fullscreen 1920x1080, also via the launcher.

Even without compatibility mode and with fullscreen optimization, no more problems.
BUT you need more than 2GB RAM for that!

Yeah, I also downloaded and patched the hoi_tfh.exe, but disabling fullscreen optimization for that executable was the main fix (for me at least). Can't comment to other problems people might be experiencing unfortunately.

That being said, think HOI3 is a much more realistic and difficult game then hoi4. Also more punishing for germany in terms of having enough resources to feed its factories LOL
