Always liked Downfall. As a (mostly) USA player though, the one thing that bothers me in all HOI3 iterations (vanilla, mods) is that the Japanese AI never seems to go south into the Dutch East Indies, New Guinea, etc. In Downfall, the AI made a half-hearted effort to take the Philippines and gave up, although I intentionally left it undefended. They'd just go straight for the Pacific islands and Pearl. The entire goal of the Japanese was to take the resources in the South Pacific and prevent us from taking it back. This is what drove me (for awhile) to HOI4 where the Japanese DO go for the South Pacific.

The Central Pacific gets all the attention because of the bloody, frontal assault island battles that took place there. The main thrust should always have been in the South Pacific where MacArthur was running rings around the Japanese. He was the only Allied commander who, many times, fought outnumbered as the Japanese concentrated most of their ground AND air forces against him. The invasion of Japan was mostly going to be staged from the Philippines which he retook. Even Nimitz agreed that the South Pacific should be the major thrust, but King wanted to reclaim the honor he thought the Navy lost at Pearl Harbor.

Rant over. Question-Does the new Downfall handle the South Pacific better? This was always my favorite mod with that (to me) major exception. I'd mod the South Pacific myself if I knew how.

I installed it. Great mod as usual. No music though! Plays for the 1st couple of minutes, then cuts out. The music is a big part of this mod. Takes you back to those times. Anyone know of a fix or do we have to wait for 1.40??

What i also noticed is that transport Ships have a range of 500 km if not teched. Thats like 260 Nautical miles.

Is this normal in this mod or also vanilla? I forgot lol.

Just tried the mod and this is not a historical mod . It makes unrealistic and unhistorical territorial changes to China, Somalia, etc.

The minute I saw this, I uninstalled the mod. I hate these damn alternate history mods.

1.40 was released since, and the music bug was corrected

♥♥♥ AI : as stated in the mod thread, not so much you can do beyond a certain point. Still assessing how to improve

Map in China / Somalia : well you shall review your "historcal" facts... somew changees are made to allow AI to fight back and you have to find some balance between perfect historical with stupid AI and almost historical but with a competent AI

Security patch : nothing I saw seem to have changed

Im a Japan player mostly. For the next update, is there a Free Burma event or something, that region I hate policing because the terrain is rough making partisan warfare tedious and an independent Burma would be really nice especially to gather support against the British

Wow bro 3.5k hours. Fantastic. I have a question for you as Japan player. I encountered some weird things. Transport Ships ( not teched up but available ) have only 500km range. Am i missing here Something? They should have waaay more range.

I haven't played enough of this mod to know, although i cant say i like the transport range, being only at 500km but my theory is it is to prevent the AI from making ridiculous landings all over the place. Like preventing the US from going after the Marshal islands as soon as war begins with Japan, instead the US would send its forces to Australia and try island hopping from the Solomans.

But if you want a realistic approach then with only 500km there is no way Japan could ever have landed in the East Indies from any port it controls, the player needs the Philippines and then must hop to all the ports i guess. This then gives time for the Allies to send reinforcements to the Colonies.

This makes sense to me.

By the way, do you have maybe the 138 version of the mod? I have an old savegame that i want to play in this version.
