HOI3 Alternative
I am a hard core Grognard with hundreds of hours with several others playing FITE and SE board games back in the day. Rated on AHIKS in TRC. For those of you who understand this message, have you advice for an alternative to HOI3 I can buy on Steam? Please do not say HOI4.

Thank you and good hunting.

James, I would also suggest most anything by Gary Grigsby, if it is on Steam. I understand you do not want to use Matrix games.

Look at Strategic Command WW2: World at War. I suppose you would already have Darkest Hour. Command Ops is also a good one to look at.

Thank you. No DH or any other HOI game. HOI3 was my gaming world and I mourn that it will not boot up on my new laptop.

It's a disgrace that PDX are not providing any tehnical support for Hoi3. Volunteers updated Arsenal of Democracy (a Hoi2 spin-off) to work on Win10 so why can't PDX assign someone to fix Hoi3?

I'm playing Hoi3 on Win10 right now. If you download Podcats.exe it works great
I also suggest Grisby. I moved onto them when I couldn't get black Ice to run and they are truly amazing for anyone who wants a realistic but fun and not too hard to play. The best WW2 grand strategy out there by far. I would say though as great as War in the Pacific is dont start with that one (though its not on steam).

Not really world war 2, but Ageod are great, and Espana and Rus gold are similar time frames to this game. There a little clunky or rough around the edges but a ton of fun.

Also HOI3 works on windows 10 for me and I dont remember doing anything to it?

Surpreme Ruler Ultimate is quite nice

I am and have been a supporter of Battlegoat for over a decade. However, SRU is not the genre/category of game James is looking for.

Axis&Allies from Atari had some really good 4v4 3v3 2v2 games but played more like Total War. Axis&Allies on steam may work? Heheeem;)

And war in the West.

Is this like Paradox pricing in reverse? Ask all the money upfront? Shocked to see the price. First time I saw a game almost $90 Canadian that is 9 years old. What am I not seeing here?

It is amazing. Best strategy game covering the Eastern Front, thoguh only for those who have prior knowledge of the war there. The amount of reasearch. the detail and way the battle are simulated taking into account everyhting from individual equipment to moral. Plus if you look at time played by most of the reviewers its in the hundreds, not for the faint of heart, but those who want an accurate depiction of the eastern front theres nothing better. I have never regretted paying that price, but there is sometimes sales. Also it still recevies updates and balancing for free despite the age of the game.

I bought War in the West for $27 last steam sale, the summer sale I believe.

I only played one turn and it kept on flickering thinking in the turn, so I quit and haven't given it a fair shot yet.

I like building my Units, being in charge of the production, and I don't think the Grisby games offer that.
