Hearts of Iron III

Hearts of Iron III

So about the mod BICE
Can someone explain why they like BICE so much compared to vanilla tfh (or the mod downfall)...?
I can see the love and hard work put into it, and I also hear alot of praise for the mod.

Ive played up to 1940 as both England and Germany as well as watched a bunch of lets play but... i just dont get it, yet:)

So before i give up on it i would like to hear why you guys/girls like it!

For me black ice mainly seem to add special infrastructure and "prebuilds" from spamming events. which while cool doesnt really add much in complexity, just tediousness.

For example a bunch of theaters and armygroups are created (as germany) and while perhaps historical doesnt do much ingame. I mostly seperate them into two theaters like vanilla tfh in 39 since its alot better from a structural perspective.

There are things I like, for example the more advanced divison builds. Though, i dont really think that the ai is using all the options (just get templates).

tldr
Basically it feels more tedious, a bunch of unit/building adding events and historical accuracy but true meaningful usage of the increased 'complexity' is lacking for me... Explain why you all like BICE :)

I have been an active user of BICE since the very early versions, and i the reason why i like them is the increased number of events. I agree those HQ Creation Events can be a bit anoying, but that's an easy workaround by simply not letting AI control your research. Reason is that these events are tied to specific research giving you very small bonuses to eg. Mountain Infantry, Armor etc.

In HOI3 TFH Vanilla you're very limited in terms of divisions designs, so it's the same over and over again in my opinion. In BICE You can create your divisions just like you want them, with a bunch of new units.

I guess in the end it comes down to personal prefferance. Personally I like it because of the added complexity to the game, the more options, more units in the field, larger airforces, more events that keeps popping up all the time! (Not the HQ ones...)
I never even touched Vanilla until I had put 500 hours into just Black I.C.E. For me that mod reached perfection about a year ago when version 4 (or 5?) was released. The next big version (don't really remember numbering) introduced 6 brigades in stantard division and 7 with superior firepower. It also brought a whole host of custom units which pushed the tediousness limit over the edge for me. I haven't touched the mod since. I've heard final version might be published in the near future so I might pick that up again and see what I've missed in the couple previous versions :)

How can i do to play mods in the buyed in Steam HOI3?
go to where the game is saved in steam folder. Open the latest DLC folder, for example tfh. In there you will find a folder called mod. Download the modfiles there.

I get unknown error when " Loading database II ". Do someone know what is wrong and what can I do. I think there is fail in my files, because when I tried BI 8.4 got the same error. I can only add that my HOI3 TFH is working perfectly.

pretty sure you need LAA (large address aware - allows the game to use more RAM) exe file - get it here: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/black-ice-tfh-download.637689/ - on that page find the text "STEP ~ 1 Make sure you have a clean HOI3 TFH 4.02. WITH PODCATS TFH EXE " and "PODCATS TFH EXE" is a download link - just get that file into your HOI3 install folder and hopefully should fix your issue!

It's kind of fun since a lot of the time you don't know what kind of events are going to happen so it is almost like being a real general in that unexpected events can toss plans out the window. It is a lot of fun to play as the small nations like Canada or Australia though since you get big bonuses and lots of units. It also does nice things like giving aircraft proper ranges and increases the HQ radio ranges so that you don't have to move them around all the time, I can't play vanila now because of those 2 reasons alone. The crazy modifyers give small forces a chance against larger forces and it poses a real challange when planning attacks.
