Constant Crashes on Windows 10

isnt there any way to solve it or at least alleviate it......this is literally making such a great game unplayable

The game was released in 2009, and the store page tells you exactly what OS the game is intended to run on, namely w2000, XP and Vista. Windows 10 is not listed as being supported and you were made aware of that fact before your purchase. If shame there is, it fall neither on Steam nor Paradox.

I have seen many people that run the game on Win 10 fine. One just needs to get the above file I linked. It allows the game to use more memory for 64 bit systems.

If someone could be so kind as to help me out. I was able to download the podcats thingyofabobber and it gave me a file called hoi3_tfh and then someone in a forum said to find the old file and replace it with that one....... except I searched through all the heart of iron 3 game files and cannot find any file named hoi3_tfh. I found hoi3 and hoi3game but I don't think I'm suppose to replace those. I don't know much about computers other than start it up and play games, but if anyone knows exactly what I'm suppose to do, I would be greatly appreciated.

You should have a file named "hoi3_tfh.exe" in the HOI folder. It replaces that file. Assuming you have all three expansions, of course. You need them.

yeah, I don't have the DLC's. So the problem is not with that. I just bought the game today, I bought it because it was $10 and HOI4 was $40, and the reviews seem to be that this was a good game. The wierd part is the crashes only seem to happen when I play as the US. I tried to play as Mexico and the game didn't crash. I didn't try any other country so I can't speak on much more. I do have Windows 10 which some say the game works, others say it does not. I tried going to paradox's website but they don't seem to have an answer, they keep telling me to go to some hoi3 tech forum which I cannot find for the life of me. You wouldn't happen to know of a magical fix for this would you lol.

The fix is made for Their Finest Hour. I believe it will not work without it as the three expansions include fixes/improvements and additions to the game which the file needs.

I am curious where you downloaded the file from if you cannot access the Paradox Tech forum?

For what it is worth, I had it on Windows 10 and it worked fine with the three expansions and PODCATs file. This was the retail disk version. I had a hard drive failure and decided to get the GOG.com version this time since Gamersgate no longer allowed me to download the expansions. The GOG version also works fine on win 10.

I downloaded the game from steam, but I just bought the base game. I then went to paradox's website to submit a ticket and I did create an account with them and synced the game, however I'm guessing the game that got synced was the base game. However it still allowed me to access the forum, I did not know I needed the DLC's at the time of downloading it. Now here's the weird part. The crashes I'm getting seem to be only when I play as the US. The very first thing I did after the tutorial was start a game as the US and it crashed everytime. After that I started a game as Mexico as originally I thought you could only play as the countries that the flags showed at the bottom (US, Russia, Germany, Italy, UK, France, and maybe Japan) so I clicked on Mexico to see what would happen and I was able to play as them and I did not recieve any crashes. Also I didn't get far as I'm still learning the game. I backed out and started a new game with Russia and then with the UK, again the game did not crash at all. So, so far the only time the game crashes is if I try to play as the US. So I have no idea what could be going on nor do I know how to fix it. Which is why I was hoping someone on the forums might know something.

I wish you luck. I have read nothing but issues over the years with the Steam version. For some it works, for some it does not. In either case the expansions are well worth it.

well maybe you can still help. One of the tech support guys said maybe getting the expansions will help since it adds fixing and stuff. So he gave me a code to get them. however added the hoi3_tfh file before downloading the expansions. So I do see a hoi3_tfh file but it looks the same as the one I downloaded from the link and there is no hoi3_tfh in the tfh folder. So what do I do lol
