Mortal Shell II

Mortal Shell II

Devs, Thank you for the optimization
Running the game with DLSS off, everything on ultra AND raytracing on at 1440p and I'm getting around 100fps on a RTX 5070 TI and AMD Ryzen 9 3900X. It's a rarity these days to have a game run so well and I thought it was worth highlighting.

Thank you Cold Symmetry for the optimization, and thank you Playstack for letting them cook.

Yup, with Native DLSS, Ultra settings and RT on, the game runs surprisingly smoothly and the visuals look great!
Q: Anyone knows how to level up using Gloom at beacons?

This is a weird place to post this, but the option will unlock after progressing some.
Running on Steam Machine, 1440p, Ultra, quality mode, locked 60fps. I will try Decky, Proton Up, and LSFG experimental later. Runs like butter, Because it is so rock solid I get the feeling I can push this a lot further with good results.
Yeah the optimization is pristine on my side too, which is insane in 2026, kudos to the devs
That's just because Hardware Ray Tracing is broken. Visuals and performance are identical no matter if it's on or off. If it worked properly, there's no way you'd get 100 fps on Native 1440p/Ultra with a 5070 Ti.
Controversial. Wuchang, at maximum settings and 4K resolution with DLSS performance enabled, delivers 160 FPS without framerate generation. Mortal Shell 2 can't boast this. What's also very strange is that Wuchang looks like I'm playing at native resolution without blur.

wuchang doesnt let you turn off dlss. Even if you set dlss at 100% it will internally forces upscaling.
I hate these devs deceit practise.
And you will notice blurry on action. It's okay that you like the game but don't need to lie that it looks like native resolution

It still does this? I remember the scaling controversy back from when it was released (even tried it out myself, setting it to native 4K but only getting 1440p in actual resolution), but I figured it would've been fixed by now.

I assume, like the few games that run well on UE5, They disabled a bunch of the built-in UE5 features like lumen and replaced it with other lighting that's actually performant.
Ray tracing doesn't even work that's why you're getting good fps with it on. See for yourself by toggling it off/on while restarting the game. You won't see any fps difference.
To enable RT
Open/create:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\MortalShell2\Saved\Config\Windows\Engine.ini

Add:
[SystemSettings]
r.RayTracing.EnableOnDemand=1

Save the file and start the game

This introduces frequent, major stuttering for me. The game goes from ~120 to like 40 fps every 5 seconds or so. RT works fine for me in other UE5 titles, so this is most definitely an issue with the game itself and needs to be addressed by the devs.
Funny, adding those lines had basically no effect for me.
