You can't expect a new player to play at their fullest from the moment they pick up the game, people are supposed to figure out the game themselves or even look up guides other people may make.
Do they think people believe they have to know and understand all mechanics from the get go to enjoy a game?
There will only be a small minority of Gundam Vs veterans compared to the horde of people who jump aboard the f2p train that they shouldnt be worried.
This is just really upsetting.
I had absolutely no idea what I got into when I got Gundam Extreme. VS Full Boost, I just got it after hearing about it so much and then sat down and started learning. The magical thing with Gundam VS. was how fun it was even though you had no idea about the more in-depth mechanics, I didn't learn side stepping until way past I started playing and I had fun before anyway. People go through the mechanics of FPS, MOBA, fighting games, RTS etc. no matter the depth if the game has a chance of being more fun by learning and especially its already fun when you start playing. Gundam VS. is exactly that, its fun from the start even though you have no idea about the deeper mechanics and it just gets more fun when you get into it and start learning its intricacies!
DOTA was already a complex game (though a tad bit unrefined) the day it got out as a mod for Warcraft 3 and it was something people had never seen before, look how that went. A lot of people who started playing LoL or DOTA 2 had never touched a MOBA before and still had fun despite not knowing item builds, hero synergies, meta strategies and etc. Many people sat down with Street Fighter II or other fighting games for the first time in their lives and started having fun without having no idea about any deeper mechanics. People still had fun! People are not gonna shy away from a new genre just like that. If it has a potential of being fun, people will play. And if it has a depth to master, people will stay.
"but what you really want is Extreme VS, why not just keep playing that? ;)"
That is probably the worst way to answer a fan who wants to see his game get better. While I understand his side, It all makes me is not support the game.
Should have told that butthead to bring over Extreme VS to PC. I would pay whatever they want for a PC version of that glorious game.
The research has shown that Gundam just doesn't sell in the US. It would be a waste of money to even try. That's why they are starting a new IP.
While he was kind of rude, he has a point. The small group of players who already know about the Gundam VS series are already playing that game anyways.
Yeah, if only they brought the actual good games. In all seriousness - most anime centric titles that aren't Naruto just don't sell well outside Japan, but it is insulting, nonetheless to only bring the crappy games here. I get WHY they brought Dynasty Warriors: Gundam, since DW is a franchise that actually sells (ugh...) but I believe that a modestly priced MS Gundam game - preferably either the Gundam Battle series or the Gundam VS series - if brought to PC, PS4 or Xbox One, it would sell. I doubt it would on last gen consoles, but that's because consoles already have way too much to pick from and is expensive.
..I know? We're talking about games here though, and about that much is obvious. What's really depressing is the fact that what DOES sell is garbage like Neptunia, Agarest and that dumb stuff, which makes them think it's the only thing that sells when it's that they make dumb decisions sometimes...
I was so excited ot pick up One Piece Unlimited World RED on my WiiU until I found out it's digital only on WiiU, so I just lost interest in the thing as a whole. The same applies to this in a way... I LOVE Gundam, and I've bought nearly all of the older games since the PSX days with Battle Assault 1 & 2 - but I refuse to buy the DW Gundam games because I hate DW.
That is the thing, we are a small group. I wanna play this with my friends who live here as well, but they don't wanna import a copy or don't have a PS3. I want a PC version of the gameplay that I can show to my friends and tell them how great it is. This however is not selling the concept well enough. I tell people why I think Full Boost is great, it has depth, speed, multitude of characters with different styles to choose from, RoI so far only have the basics down and according to Micheal Murray, that is all they need and I find that lazy.
> The Dynasty Warriors Gundam games sold because it was Dynasty Warriors. The game being based around Gundams only helped ease the non-DW fans that were Gundam fans into it. Personally, I even bought the second one, but I didn't enjoy it because I don't find DW gameplay that fun. The same is most likely going to go for the upcoming Hyrule Warriors on the WiiU. I'm buying it day one to support the Zelda series, but I'm very liable to not enjoy the game at all because it's still DW at it's core - here's hoping...
> Sadly we are. And yeah I have the same issue. Gundam Extreme VS has mechanics that are deep enough to make tourneys for it, and make the series as a whole big - but of course it runs into a multitude of problems, most of them stemming from the game being Japanese only- which means the community surrounding the game over on the West is considerably small (like you said, we are a very small, niche group atm) and that's a real shame... because GEXVS is a solid game even by Western journalists standards (lolcallofduty).
Thirdly - I'm actually pretty happy I got to talk to a few of you guys. It's great to know one's not the only one to give the love an attention a game of such quality like the Gundam VS series deserves - it's just such a shame the gameplay style will never get popularized enough over on Western shores because the ONE game we get that's in the same vein as the VS series, is a shameless, shallow and try-hard of an imitator that doesn't even come close to even Gundam vs Gundam's first release let alone GEXVS.
Different is not always better. What is it with Rise of Incarnates you like then?
I just wish I can dash a little more to dodge more but I don't want mechanics like extreme. I would just play extreme if I wanted that. This game reminds me a tiny bit more of anarchy reigns anyway, which I enjoy more.
Different strokes for different folks.
My point is that you can't argue about alternatives when there is none for most people. Rise of Incarnates will be the only of its kind here in the west and it will be vastly inferior to an already existing game, made by the same company, that only exists in one country.
I don't know what to tell you, I enjoy the game I guess? I don't think your going to get anything else out of me honestly, it might be better to continue your discussion with the others instead of responding to me at this point. Only thing I want at this point is the mobility options to be tweeked.
