Europa Universalis III

Play vanilla EU3, or get DLC, or just go EU4?
Do i need DLC to enjoy this game? Some guides I've read says the game is poor without it.
I do have the EU3-Complete version, which apparantly does not contain the DLC??

Or should I just forget about EU3 and get EU4? As far as I can see, is EU3 DLC around €20 (I'm not gonna bother with cosmetic packs). Eu4 is €40.

I've played CK2 quite a bit, and have enjoyed it a lot. I did start one game but didn't understand anyting, so I watched like 4-5 hours of tutorials (a nice way to spend a day in bed when you are sick) and learnt how to play it. I have now played a game for 60 hours and I have many hours (or days ...) of more fun to do in CK2.

One of the other reasons I was looking on EU3, is that it does run much better on my laptop (2011 MacBook Air with intel hd gfx, CK2 doesn't work well on Intel HD on Mac, but Eu3 does. I guess EU4 wil have same issues as CK2 on the MacBookAir). I do not usually game on laptop, but on my desktop.

So play:
Eu3 "Complete" (no DLC) already got this.
or EU3 + DLC €20..
or EU4 €40

I'm not short on cash, but if I can save €40, i'll do it. I will get Eu4 eventually, probably a bit down the road with DLC (as it seems these games need some DLC to be tweaked)

Heir to the Throne and Divine Wind are not DLC, they are full fledged expansions so yes if you are going to play then it is better to play with them both(DW requires HttT) as they add lots of things and removes the problems.

And yeah EU4 requires a lot, it is the reason I didn't buy my laptop is way too far behind the requirements, yours also is if you can't run CKII properly.

Thanks a lot for the info. I'm probably just gonna pick up the DLC, ones I'm finished with this CK2 game. (Need to alternate a bit between games, so I don't get tired of them)

As for EU4, I will usually be playing it on my desktop which is pretty capable.
(4.4GHz overclocked i5, 16gb ram, GTX660) CK2 runs flawlessly over 3x Screens (504x1050 res)

Playing on my laptop is just an added bonues for when I go away etc.

Ok in that case go ahead and buy it, that should be more than enough for full settings and from what I have seen pretty much everyone who played EU4 considers it an improvement over EU3.

You should also be able to play it in laptop to some extent, the problem is the same as other paradox games in that with a computer below the recomended(not minimum) you tend to waste a lot of time waiting when nothing really important is happening since your fastest speed is not really that fast.

Get EU3 Chronicles.
It includes all expansion packs and the base game - and EU IV isn't really fun for now.
