Can you save in the demo?
Any time I try to save after starting a game, the option is always grayed out. And I do not seem to be able to save between months or years either, or never have the option to load a saved game anyway. Thank you.

Just tried the demo to see, and indeed load and save interfaces are grayed-out, plus the auto-save feature doesn't seem to kick in, and a quick glance in the demo folder doesn't show saves or the expected folder for them.

Perhaps it's intentional? I wonder also if the demo has an in-game time barrier, and what year would it be. If it's too early then maybe it renders any session unable to go on long enough to be worth saving (EDIT: btw demo only has two starting dates, no?).

I'd like to note though, that the demo is showcasing an outdated version of the game:
Steam sells the base game and the first two expansions under the package labeled "complete", that's version 3.0 or 3.x of the game, but the demo is version 1.0, visible in the main menu's corner. Also I've only started playing the game on version 3.0 or 3.x, and while I don't remember everything from those versions I can tell the demo is different, as it clearly is missing stuff I've always known to be there, and has stuff I've never seen on account of them being replaced quite early in the game's life cycle.

Another thing:
Two DLCs on Steam are actually expansions rather than DLCs, upgrading the game to versions 4.x and 5.x, and I've been on 5.x probably more than half my time on the game, literally thousands of hours. I recall those expansions changing the game greatly, mostly positively, and while I'd have serious trouble comparing 1.0 to 3.x, and some trouble comparing 3.x to 5.x, I can easily tell the differences between 1.0 and 5.x and I can tell you it is a massive change that you don't want to miss out on.

In short:
I believe the demo will be showing you an incorrect product, because on Steam you'll buy either version 3.x, 4.x, or 5.x, while the demo is showing you the older version 1.0.

I'd direct you to an alternative, but unfortunately the best I can think of are videos, and I don't know of a specific one, not that a video is a substitute for a demo to begin with...

BTW, about tutorials:
I know the actual game's tutorials are essentially useless, due to the game getting updated substantially over the years, but the tutorials weren't updated, so eventually they became inaccurate, outdated, and even buggy. Hopefully though the demo's tutorials didn't suffer this issue, but then again it's based on 1.0 and they are not selling 1.0, so, how can they be useful...

Hopefully I've been of help, and hopefully whatever choice you go with is a choice you'll be happy with. If you have questions though, please don't hesitate to ask.

I appreciate that. I had read the time period(s) was locked on the demo, but nothing about the save being broken, even after trying to search for it. In fact, people were saying you could save, so I was afraid that this may not run on my system. Then I was reading the main game could not save for some and then I was worried if I purchased (I hate to refund) it may not work on my computer.
