Spike challenge
So, there is this room in West with a lot of spikes:

I really do not like the design of this challenge, bad game design imo.

The timing to get a dash chain going on is too narrow, so it's impossible to avoid damage. And even if you get through, probably using all your health packs in the progress, you'll end up in a room so full of enemies that there's no way to kill them by tactic or skills, only by button smashing and pure luck.

It only took me a couple tries. It's not as bad as it looks, you just have to be careful to not hit a wall or over shoot a safe area. Once I got into the room at the end with all the mobs, I just dropped a bomb and it took care of it.

For this area, its a matter of practice.

For the first section of spikes, angle slightly down so that the length of your dash reaches the hallways near the edge, making your slide put you in a safe area. After a few tries I was able to replicate the move every attempt. The rest is just a matter of practice. The bottom hall isnt too bad, and the top hallway (the one that loops back down toward the horde of enemies) is the one i usually took damage in. Luckily, they dont kill you, and you can usually get away with taking the damage at the top peak of the hall, then make it to the safe zone right before the room.

So, the room is actually fairly easy. Toss a grenade. It will whipe out literally anything inside its detonation radius in the room.

I cleared the room on try two (since the first time I wasn't prepared at all), and didnt even take a hit. The grenade killed 95% of the enemies, then i just shotgunned what was left.

Sounds like a matter of you being angry that you're bad at the game. If this room is giving you this much trouble, then boy do I have some bad news about a room in the bottom left of the Southern area, not to mention the fire vents in that puzzle in the East.
It's meant to be challenging, just because something takes you a couple tries to complete doesn't mean it's "bad game design."
Also, if people are able to successfully complete 800 dashes in a row, then the timing for the chain dash must be just fine.

As far as the spikes go, Chain Drift. Practice.
As far as the enemies go, I see you have a bomb available. Why?
Huck that thing. it will kill a high percentage of those enemies instantly. Especially considering the blast radius is like 80% of that room.
OR, be risky and dash back through the spikes.. They'll follow ;)

I already cleared all directions, just ramping up collectables and stumbled upon this room.

I actually got to 1200... using the mouse/keyboard explode.

Cleared that area, never saw the room ...

I don't think there is anything to complain about game desgin when you are treading non mandatory challenges. Also that doesn't look that hard - a certain seemingly endless fire platform dash chain in the east area seems harder to me.

Probably the hardest area in the game, imo. Getting through that thing in ng+ is HELL.

practice your chain dash. It's very, very easy when you start to get the timing down, or you recognize the frame you can do it in. Watch carefully.
A room that "you can only get through unharmed if you are skilled" is not bad design, and it's not mandatory.

throwing the grenade helps a bit, just be patient and you're gonna get through

I think this is bad gamedesign. I mean, like the worst gamedesign possible. It should be used at every game development related collage as an example of a design that's challenging but not in a fair way or fun to do.

people have gotten the 800 dashes for the challenge without the exploit. its possible. it took me a few tries as well though, but i really liked it.

as far as the room full of enemies goes. just lean back and think about it for a second. you do. not. have. to fight. a. single enemy. trust me.

If you're fast enough you can't taunt the first spike, dodge, taunt the second, dodge, taunt the third etc... and progress one by one without being touched, but it's loooooong. (Don't know if the process is really clear :/)
The only problem will be when you've to dash above the empty space (after the first Spikes chain)

For the big pack, if you've at least one grenade that can be great, or the charged sword.

I just completed that section.

You can hug the bottom section of the walls on the first two rooms, to avoid damage (Bug!?) and reach the second safe area.

From here you can dash to the third safe area and use up 2-3 heath packs, keeping one for the mob.

When you encounter the mob, you can do the following
- Shoot Shotgun
- Throw a grenade
- Dash Attack (A+X) <- This is extremely effective and knock back enemies
- Charge up a Power Attack immediately (changing direction) and let go
- Shotgun should have recharged by now for another spam

Oh man, I LOVED THIS CHALLENGE. I'm shocked so many people are calling this worse than Hitler.

took me 3-5 tries with 3 health packs and no exploits. i don't consider myself an expert in this game. if you get the pinciple right, mastering execution is not a problem.

IMO excluding the bosses all game challenges can be mastered in under 10 tries. for those impatient there are exploits like in this case for instance bumping into a wall on purpose to avoid damage from the spikes.

considering the last room, apart from grenade themed welcome party someone mentioned already, show up, slash, tease, X+A, A+X, run away and let the spikes to the job.
