Where are all the other player messages?
I leave messages with the qr paint every time i see the buckets...but i don't think I've ever seen a message left by anyone else. and i've only see the recordings of other players like twice, and i'm on the world of faith, having completed everything in the first two worlds

Your messages are only visible to your Steam friends. The other messages (Sheep, D0G, TheShepherd, Samsara, etc) are all built-in.
Its not Dark Souls for you ;p

I can confirm that friends have seen messages I have posted.

You have to be kidding, the whole place would be plastered if it was open to the public, you wouldn't be able to look anywhere without mousing over one. It would kill the over all graphics and kill this game.
