Headless statues in world A- why?
I've been watching an LP of the game and noticed that almost all of the statues in the first world have no heads. Does anyone have an idea as to what the meaning/s behind this are?

I noticed this too. Interesting detail, but the only theory I came up with is that decapitated statue is some sort of symbol of denial. Of what? I don't know. Of the past, perhaps, or of gods and/or paradise.

This is how those statues are in real life. Those models were made from real life photos.
If you're still curious, you can look up headless statues in Rome.

The heads are replaceable. Romans commissioned statues with detachable heads so if a ruler was replaced, or a hero was disgraced, they could swap them out without having to pay for a whole new body as well. Marble was just as expensive back then as it is now.

Thanks for that little fun fact

Avoiding any direct imagery of people, if I had to guess at a thematic reason.

I'd been wondering about this over the past month but didn't want to search for answers or discussions about it before completing the game.

At first I wondered if Elohim suffered from good old fashioned jealousy, but then I thought that it may relate to a loftier concept, namely that in the period these types of statues were popular mankind still had a long way to go before it reached the pinnacle of its mental and rational faculties. Well, minus some notable Greek philosophers such as Pythagoras and the like. I hope that there's a spiritual/cultural reason rather than a practical one!

That the Republic of Rome is a main influence/theme in world A is a certainty given the inscription of the famous Roman acronym SPQR (Senatus Populus Que Romanus/The Roman Senate and People) on the walls of the World A temple.

Thank you, Croteam, for making a game and including content that allows us to think and discuss topics like this one.

It's worth noting that only the statues in the puzzle worlds are headless. All of the statues in the hub world and Messenger Abodes have heads. Not sure what's the significance of that.

Whew, just started the game and was starting to freak out about the missing heads. Kinda worried about an unpleasant subtext.

the statues simbolize the past gods the humanity had. So putting them without head could possibly mean that the past gods are dead, and that god speaking to you is the real one, (just an interpretation)

This is probably because of the Muslim. A statue showing a full human body is against their religion. So when they conquered some Greek territories they didn't destroy the statues, but instead they cut off a limb or the head.
