What engine does this game use?
I recently bought a very powerful gaming PC and i have been displeased with the general lack of optimization in pc gaming lately. It seems like every game that comes out these days runs like complete garbage.

But this game is IMPRESSIVE. The engine feels extremely light-weight and responsive. It's hard to explain but other games dont feel as snappy and raw when you turn the mouse to look around (like in dayz for example you can have a high framerate but quickly looking left and right does not feel as effortless/snappy on your pc) And i am also able to achieve high framerates despite all the eyecandy this game hasto offer

I just wish there were more games made like this.. Whenever i play dayz, life is feudal, or rust for example i always get frustrated by how cumbersome the performance is.. I am glad i got to demo this game because now i have hope for the future of game engines..

i7 4770k, 16gb ram, R9 290X 4GB, 240gb ssd, 2tb hdd, 750 watt gold psu

The Engine is absolutly awesome. I play this game with DSR on 4k and it's smooth like hell. Thats one of the things i love about Croteam. Same with Serious Sam Games. Massive amount of enemies but compared to other games its optimized and also running good on older Pcs. :kungfusam:

I think it runs on magic, I've got a medium spec pc, but Talos Principle is impressive when it comes to the visuals, no big framedrops either (note, I'm running medium to high specs in HD resoltion).
Croteam, you people have my respect when it comes to making it fun, responsive and look good.

I definitely know what you mean about how smooth it feels, I've tried lots of other games that ran absolutely sublime as well, but this game has an odd smoothness to it that I've never seen in a game before.

But yeah, it's the Serious Engine 4, allegedly they'll be using that (or a slightly revamped version) for Serious Sam 4.

This engine really is nice :happymeat:.
Performances are really good, and loading time are invisible :3.
It also come with a G19 support :coolsam:.

It seem maps can also be really huge, my G19 show the whole Tower+Worlds Hub area as only one map !! It only change when you get into a teleporter.

Croteam did an awesome job on this engine :D:.

Yeah, even as a long time CT fan, I'm really impressed with this iteration of the engine. So much better than SE3.5 was.

It's such a shame that CT is making this awesome own engine in this day and age where everyone and their mother uses Unreal or Unity or some other engines, but Serious Engine 4 will be probably be only used by CT.

Tis a real shame.

I think one of the big benefits Croteam has by using their own "in house" developed engine, is that they know every little bit about it, can tweak, push, pull, change and optimize wherever they feel there is any need to, all witch is a far bit less possible if they would use a third party game engine.
It's a good thing really

Id love to see a game like dayz made in this game engine
Diamond Sutra Dec 14, 2014 @ 9:52pm
Actually, after some back and forth, they decided to go wtih the Serious Engine 7.5, which Croteam had kindly made available to them.
