How long is it?
How much time can I expect it to take to finish the game?

Minimum 15-20h.
I completed it for 12 hours but thats without collectings stars but manage to find all terminals and read the info on them.

It depends somewhat on you, as well as if you aim for 100% or not. Some of the optional puzzles are pretty hard. I've hit about 7 hours and I haven't started working on the other two hubs yet. I've gotten every sigil in the levels I've tried minus one.

I'm up to 14h and I still have most of the stars and half the sigils to get, and I haven't even started on the tower or collected all the information.

I am not a smart heron, though: several of the puzzles seem physically impossible, and the time puzzles are just evil.

The auto test bot takes about 5.5 hours (of game time) to complete the game (my computer simulated it in a bit over an hour). Granted, it's not perfect, it goes back to collect the stars after everything else, and spends (IMO) an unreasonable amount of time on a few puzzles. I'd say, a pro gamer could possibly do it in well under 10. For a first run, or novice players without knowing the solutions beforehand, I'd say 20 hours minimum.

That's a rather personal question.

Oh, you mean the game. I'm 14 hours in, and completed about 2/3 of the puzzles. The last third seems to be quite a bit harder, so probably 25 hours?
I had doubts about this game's length but, I ended with 23 hours.

Depends on whether you just go for the sigils or also for all the stars and secret puzzles

I finished at 13...moving pretty fast, didnt' try for stars. I figure the stars will add at least 5 more hours when I go back for them.

The bot is deliberately set up so that he gets stars on a second run. That's to make sure that all other sigils can be picked up even if you don't get the stars, and to make sure that all stars can be collected later if you forgot them initially.

Took me about 20 hours to complete, 29 to 100% achievement-wise. Awesome game

do you need to get every sigil in order to beat the game? it seems like ascending the tower is an optional thing because i've gotten to floor 4 and the next door requires more sigils than the ones i have left from just the ABC levels (unless the ones from the star levels are required to beat the game which seems doubtful).

The tower levels, the star levels and the levels behind the wooden planks are all optional.

Stars and other optional content will probably double the length of the game, if not more. The gameplay also feels a bit different when doing the stars as the logic required to track them down and get to them is at another level from normal puzzles (many stars are more Myst like in nature than Portal like).

The extra content (stars, prophet dudes, audio logs etc) may be optional in that they are not required to get to the end credits, but they are a full part of the gameplay, includes more levels, expands upon the story and unlocks different endings.

Lenght is hard to judge in puzzle games, but lets say 10-12h for shortest route, 20-25 for stars + other optional main content, and at least 40 if going for all the major secrets (there is reportedly about 40 secrets that are not a part of any star or other collectable stuff). suffice to say, some of the real secrets require you to go over the entire game with a comb.
